Background: Suomen Filmiteollisuus was opened in 2001. In 2005, Suomen Filmiteollisuus was bought by film director Markku Pölönen and his wife Satu Sadinkangas, with permissions for the SF name by Jari Nieminen. In early summer 2011, Pölönen sold over half of SF's assets to investors, Ponsse and trading house Laakkonen's owners.
