Alrighty, well, Stephen J. Cannell's production company started in 1982 with A-Team being one of the first shows in the roster. Cannell was and still is an author, writer, and a producer for most shows. I will not go very much into detail about the animation because the animation in all of his logos are the same, but I will break down the description of each one and will being squeezed into one article. Yes, I spelled the name wrong on here because I accidently went as anonymous.

Nickname: "Little guy on the Typewriter", "Creepy Old Man on the Typewriter"

Logo/Animation: the logo starts out with Mr. Cannell typing on his typewriter; then, he flings the piece of paper that he was typing. After Cannell flings the paper, the paper animates under a dark background where the paper turns into a "C" while the Stephen J. Cannell Productions text is animated on top of the "C." The logo then becomes static with a stack of papers where the "C" is on top of it with the text is above of the "C." This is the same animation they used for at least 25 years now. Now, let's talk about the five variations of the logo.

The five variations of the Stephen J. Cannell Productions logo

  • In the 1982 variation, we see Cannell smoking a pipe in a button down shirt while he's wearing a black sweater over the dress shirt.

  • In the 1984 variation, we see Cannell smoking a pipe and wearing a dress shirt with a leather jacket.

  • In the 1985 variation, we see Cannell in a striped-dress shirt.

  • In 1987, we see him in a button-down shirt with a blue-white striped sweater

  • In 1999, we see Cannell wearing a black suit with a black mock turtleneck sweater underneath the suit.

Music: the logo variations may have the same animation, but it does not have the same music

Three Variations of Music for Stephan J. Cannell

  • 1982-1985: Plays a dramatic orchestrated piece while Cannell types, and when the paper is animated, it then goes from an orchestrated piece to some sorta synthesized jingle

  • 1985-1987: Same as the music above except it's a little bit long, lower in tone and volume

  • 1987-today: Has the same piece, but the variation is much different from the previous jingle which sounds even more dramatic then the previous logo. The neding music for the logo is an electric guitar instead of a synthesizer.

Cheesy Factor: decent logo at the time (1980's-1990's) with decent animation, but even the most recent logo for Cannell looks relatively cheap. I know it's set in a deluxe office setting, but they could've done something a little different with him still typing.

Availability: pretty common particularly the 1980's Cannell logos which can be found on reruns of the A-Team, Hunter, Wiseguy, and some other shows.

Scare Factor: Moderate, because it depends on the person on whether he thinks Cannell is a hard-working writer or a man whomm looks so mad, he wants to beat the living stuffings out of a poor person for not having any money. The music depends as well becuase some people might like the dramatic music; some people might not like the dramatic music. Overall, the logo is decent and is popular amongst the spoof group.
