Note: These bumpers advertising the MGM website appeared on products from MGM/UA Home Video/MGM Home Entertainment.

1st Logo
(1996-1997)

www.mgm.com bumper 96

Logo: On a white background, green dust form a green oval while an orange circle with a white arrow spins. The words "visit mgm/ua on the internet" and "www.mgmua.com/video" fly in from the left and right sides of the screen respectively. An orange arrow flies down towards the circle and disappears while the latter text stops at the oval.

FX/SFX: The dust forming the circle, the sliding text, the arrow, the spinning circle.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on certain MGM/UA releases of the era, as well as early MGM DVD releases.

Scare Factor: None.

2nd Logo
(1997-2001)

MGM Online Bumper (1997)

Logo: On a black background is an invisible filmstrip of MGM logos moving down. The camera eases back to show a tilted view of a blue screen with black and white overtones while the filmstrip moves to the right. The background has a yellow-orange circle with "mgM" and "ONLINE" on bottom and in small letters. A lot of the circle is cut out, specifically on the "g" and most of the bottom, leaving a crescent shape. A spotlight shines on the circle. Then another screen in the same style slides in front of the first one, but this one says "Visit MGM at" on top and on bottom, "www.mgm.com" with some space between the words, also in the yellow-orange color. The camera then moves to the front to show only the screen while the URL moves up to the top slightly and the "Visit MGM at" disappears.

FX/SFX: The lion, the filmstrip, the moving screens.

Music/Sounds: Aside from the roaring lion, when the logo begins, there is a synthesized whoosh. As the second screen slides in, a mechinical moving sound is heard, then as the camera heads to face the screen, a weird synthesized moving sound is heard, which sounds like a car from The Jetsons, and when the camera gets into its comfortable position, it ends with a thud.

Music/Sound variants: On the 1998 VHS of Shag: The Movie, this logo is silent

Availability: Seen on MGM Home Entertainment releases from the timeframe, as well as later MGM/UA Home Video releases such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Scare Factor: Low to medium. It depends on how you feel about the roaring lion. Alongside with that, the different sounds can cause some scares. But it's nothing compared to the follow-up...

3rd Logo
(2001-2005)

Logo: On a black background is a quick zoom-in of the MGM logo (minus the company name and "TRADEMARK"). As that happens, "visit mgm" in the Times New Roman font in white with a transparent "@" behind the words wipes itself in front of the lion. Then it zooms in closely to Leo and the "visit mgm" and the "@" disappear. The logo disappears in black and as this happens, "www.mgm.com" in gold and a gold streak below it appears in the middle. The streak fades away before the logo fades to black.

FX/SFX: The lion roaring, the zoom-ins, the wiping of the text.

Music/Sounds: Aside from Leo roaring, there is a two-note orchestrated fanfare which ends in a twinkle that sustains itself ominously.

Availability: Seen on MGM Home Entertainment/DVD releases from 2003 onward.

Scare Factor: Medium to high. The zoom-in of the roaring lion and the ominous twinkle will scare some. For those afraid of roaring lions, it could be elevated to NIGHTMARE. But it's low for those who are used to it.

4th Logo
(2003-2005)

Nickname: "Come See What The Roar's About!"

Logo:We see the 1987 MGM logo; once it is finished, it dissolves into text reading, "COME SEE WHAT THE ROAR IS ABOUT" in Impact, then it dissolves into "MGM.COM" and it fades out.

FX/SFX: The dissolves, the lion roaring.

Music/Sounds: The lion roar used on some things like MGM Means Great Movies promo, then some light music.

Availbility: Rare, as it was the last of these to be seen on VHS releases. Seen on VHS releases like A Christmas Carol: The Movie (1998).

Scare Factor: Medium to high. The lion roaring could scare many, but it lowers once the lion dissolves.
