Background: If you thought the Nintendo DS was the first hand held with a touch-screen feature, well, then you're wrong. In late 1997, seven years before the DS, Tiger Electronics released a black-and-white hand held with a touch-screen feature, called the Game.com (pronounced "game com", not "game dot com") which also included a link cable to link to the Internet to record your high scores, which is currently defunct. It also had two cartridge slots, both on the right (though a re-designed "Pocket Pro" only had one slot and moved it to the left). The system did not sell extremely well and was discontinued very quickly. 300,000 units were sold, and only 20 games were released.

Tiger Game.com (1997)
Logo: On a black background, a silver ball bounces on screen. It then explodes, and the Tiger logo rotates into place. The logo then moves upward, as the words "game.com", in HancockParkLaser font, slide in from both sides of the screen below the logo. As the words slide into place, a copyright date appears below.

FX/SFX: The bouncing and exploding ball, the sliding words... all primitive and the animation is very choppy (then again, the system wasn't all that advanced to begin with).

Music/Sounds: A four note synth-chime-xylophone fanfare when the silver ball bounces and explodes, then, when the words slide into place, we hear a "whoosh", then a "CLANK!" (like a frying pan falling to a hard floor) sound, and a robotic voice saying "Game.com active!".

Availability: Seen when a Game.com is turned on. The system is very hard to find.
