Background: This was the national film studio in the former Soviet Republic of Moldova, operated mainly by local film directors. The first production point was created in Moldova in 1940 after it was absorbed into USSR. Then it became the documentary studio in 1952 and began shooting feature films since 1957, acquiring the current name. After the fall of USSR the studio went down dramatically and almost ceased production, though it still exists today.
