Background: Mega (known as Megavision before 2001) is a public Chilean channel which started broadcasting in 1990 on "Canal 9" (the defunct second and alternative signal of TVN). It is first privately owned television network in Chile. During his first years, was controled by CIECSA (affiliated to Grupo Claro) until it was selled to Bethia in 2011. In 2016 Bethia sell a 27.5% of the channel to Discovery Communications.

Megavision

1st Logo
(1990-1991)

Megavision (1991) (Better quality?)Megavision (1991) (I)

Nicknames: "Intersected Tricolor Stripes", "Pixelated Eyes"

Logo: We start on a gray background and see four colored polygons (black, blue, red and green) flying towards the center. The black shape becomes a square and the other three shapes form what looks like a stylized "MV". The words "MEGA" and "VISION"slide together below the box. The words then slide back apart. The black square zooms to fill the entire screen. The MV becomes three screens, each with a close up of films of eyes. Two screens fly away to the edges of the screen and the one in the center flips and zooms right inside the pupil. More animation is shown of the eye clips. The logo ends as the eyes realign and turn black and white. The irises turn red, green and blue (respectively). The colors become shapes and the logo repeats the way it started.

Variant:
  • A shorter and more common version where the last 10 seconds of the logo are used.
  • Another ID consists on a space background, in it we see a blue sphere on a corner, then the word "MEGAVISION" slides from the left. The Megavision logo fades above the words and eventually flies out of the scene, leaving a trail of the same colors of the logo.

FX/SFX: Computer animation mixed with B-roll footage.

Music/Sounds: A computerized trumpet tune which sounds like a news opening.

Availability: Extinct outside of tape trading.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo
(1991-1993)

Megavision (1991) (II)Megavision (1992) (II)

Nicknames: "Tricolor Stripes"

Logo: On a black background, we see a slanted and messy red line of paint. A green line of paint fades in and the red line shrinks and edges slightly. A blue line of paint fades in and the other lines shrink. A gray box of paint is drawn, the word "MEGAVISION" fades in and the lines and box become solid and straight.

Variant:
  • Later on, the ID is readjusted to match with the newer logo look (the grey box was removed, and part of the paint animation was skipped).
  • A cartoon variant exists. In it, we see some gears rotating, then another animation plays of a satellite flying over the Earth, as we zoom out (revealing to be a TV in blue table, with a blue-black gradient sky and some plants in the right) and appear a foot kicking a soccer ball, finally a saxophone appears generating some musical notes. As the animation fade out, the Megavision logo plays as normal in the TV, which finally fade out along the background, leaving only the logo which zooms towards the screen.

FX/SFX: The lines of paint.

Music/Sounds: Depends on the variant. Each variant has an announcer saying "Megavision, estamos con usted" or "Esta es Red Televisiva Megavision".
  • A calm synth tune in the original version.
  • A weird, bouncy and sad R&B-esque tune in the later versions.

Availability: Extinct.
