Background: KBYU is a PBS station affiliate located in Provo, Utah, also serving Salt Lake City, Utah, which is served by KUED. It is owned and operated by Brigham Young University, which also stands out as the station's call letters.

1st Logo
(1986-1988)

Nickname: "The Mountain"

Logo: We see a cheap-looking mountain against a black-blue gradient background. On the mountain, we see the number "11" (KBYU's channel number) in outline form next to a blue "Kbyu", in a Bauhaus93-like font, and over "P R O V O
-------U T A H", and a light passes through it.

Variant: A longer version was used as a station ID-- it starts at the mountain on a black background, and a blue glow happens behind it while "11 KBYU" zooms out, shrinking itself before settling in place.
"P R O V O-------U T A H" then appears below.

FX/SFX: Aside from the light, it's just a still logo, but an interesting one, nevertheless.

Music/Sounds: An orchestral tune that sounds like the beginning of Frank Gari's "Great News" music. In the station ID, mellow piano music is heard, along with an announcer saying "This is KBYU-TV, Channel 11, Provo, Utah-- the ones to watch."

Availability: Seen on Hooked on Aerobics episodes of this era.

Editor's Note: None.

Nickname
: "Diamond Flash"

Logo: On a dark blue-dark gray gradient background, we see the KBYU logo in purple, italicized, zooming in quickly. Then, a diamond-shaped flash of light occurs behind the logo, which is now over the small text "PROVO/SALT LAKE CITY".

FX/SFX: The logo zooming in, the flash.

Music/Sounds: An echoed piano note, with a flourish before it ends.

Availability: See previous.
