Logo descriptions by Shadeed A. Kelly and Eric S.
Logo captures by Eric S.

Background: Debmar Studios was formed in November 1, 1993 by Mort Marcus, a former senior syndication sales executive for Buena Vista Television (now "Disney-ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution"), with financial backing by Disney. Marcus became president of Buena Vista Television a year later, causing Debmar to be folded into Buena Vista. In 2003, Mort Marcus reopened Debmar Studios after his departure from Disney. In 2006, this company merged with Mercury Entertainment to form "Debmar-Mercury".

1st Logo

Nickname: "Debmar Searchlight"

Logo: On a black background, we see the words "DEBMAR STUDIOS" in gold three-dimensional font. Above it, the words "DISTRIBUTED BY", in white sans serif font, chryoned-in. The background wipes with a searchlight-like revealing brown color.

FX/SFX: The background wiping.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Extinct. This was found on a '90s airing of The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat. It might've been seen on announced Debmar Studios packages in syndication, mostly sourced from the CBS library, such as half hour Dr. Seuss specials (excluding
How the Grinch Stole Christmas), My Fair Lady, and Bluetoes the Christmas Elf among others; as well as several Gunsmoke telefilms and two feature-length Peanuts television specials, being A Boy Named Charlie Brown one of them.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo

Nicknames: "Leaping Jaguar", "The Debmar Jaguar"

Logo: Several crystal-textured Copperplate letters, reading "DEBMAR STUDIOS" and reflecting the image of a jaguar in them, overlap each other and move around. Then, they zoom in, as the text "DEBMAR STUDIOS" quickly zooms out at the top of the screen, while a flash brings in a movie negative with a jaguar leading through it underneath the text.

Variant: A shorter version also exists.

FX/SFX: The text moving and the zooming.

Music/Sounds: A loud ascending whoosh, followed by a stock jaguar roar sound effect.

Availability: Extinct. Was seen on syndicated reruns of pre-2006 South Park episodes.

Editor's Note: Some have been caught off guard by the jaguar roar.
