Merrie Melodies Blue Ribbon Mistake

On the VHS tapes of Warner Bros. cartoons distributed by MGM/UA, from 1987 to 1993, some cartoons were given a customized main title, which goes like so: The AAP Looney Tunes logo appears first, followed by the Merrie Melodies 1947 opening logo (the short version; this opening title card is originally from the 1951 reissue print of "Farm Frolics," going by the 1941 copyright date and the BR production # used for it) with the 1939-40 Merrie Melodies opening theme. After the '39 theme has a second or two left, it jarringly cuts to the main title of the cartoon, Blue Ribbon or otherwise. This was seen on cartoons such as "Daffy Doodles" and "Hold the Lion, Please" to name but a few. These customized prints were also circulated in syndication from 1986 to 1995, at which point Time Warner had bought out Turner Entertainment. Do you find this valuable?

I remember seeing a few on those on the Tuner stations, especially "Hild The Lion, Please". My favorite Blue Ribbon blunder was their misspelling of Bob Clampett's "Book Revue", which they renamed "Book Review". The original opening and closing title cards show up on one of the Looney Tunes DVD collections. Do you find this valuable? |
