Logo descriptions and captures by AsdfTheRevival, Eric S. amd wisp2007Editions by Emini4Background: Launched on September 1, 1988, YTV was the successor to two prior special programming services operated by various Ontario cable companies beginning in the late 1970s. The two largest shareholders in YTV were two cable companies: Rogers Cable and a company known as CUC Broadcasting, which would later be acquired by Shaw Communications. By 1995, through various acquisitions and trades, Shaw had secured full control of YTV; it was spun off as part of Corus Entertainment in 1999.
1st Logo
(1988-1990)
Nicknames: "Young as You Are", "The Youth Channel", "Canada's Youth Channel", "YTV Circle I" "YTV ID Chapter 1#: The Youth Television is Now"
Logo: There are two variations of this logo:
- On a space background, parts of a ornate circle turned on its side slowly flies into place from all sides of the screen. A layer of "glass" flies in from the bottom and settles itself on the circle. Then the circle rotates to face us, and we see the YTV text rotate in as well. The text "Young As You Are!" writes itself on the logo.
- Same concept as the "Young as You Are" logo, but this time the background is a time-lapse video of clouds (a la Warner Home Video) and this time the text is "The Youth Channel" in a different font.
Variants:
- Sometimes, there is no text writing itself on the finished logo.
- Sometimes, only the tail end of the logo plays.
- One version had "Canada's Youth Channel" writing itself on.
FX/SFX: Excellent CGI for the time.
Music/Sounds: A light synth tune with three bells and a synth bass sounder at the end. On the earliest versions (circa 1988), an electric guitar riff played at the beginning.
Availability: Extremely rare.
Scare Factor: Low; this is very neat and professional for its time.
2nd Logo
(1989-1992)

Nicknames: "The Spirit of Youth", "YTV Circle II" "YTV ID Chapter 2: The Falling Sky"
Logo: On a sky background, we see a red block being cut into pieces by lasers. As they seperate, we see parts of a giant circle come together and circular lights circling them. At the same time, the red blocks form the YTV logo (which is the same logo as before, with a slighly different arrangement) and they rotate to face us while the circle gets its "glass" covering and IT rotates to face us. While it's doing that, a triangle (upside down) with the words "THE SPIRIT OF" flies in from the bottom right. As the "glass" covering on the circle gets its "shines", the word "YOUTH", in neon green, writes itself on the triangle, under the "THE SPIRIT OF" text.
Variants:
- The sky sometimes varies. From 1989-1991, it used a dark blue sky background. From 1991-1993, the sky turned sunset orange.
- Sometimes, there is no triangle with text accompanying the logo.
- Sometimes, the tail end (where the YTV text forms itself) plays, cutting out the lasers.
- Sometimes, a still logo is shown.
FX/SFX: See 1st logo.
Music/Sounds:
- 1989-1991: A light synth theme with the three bells and a synth flourish at the end plays, just like logo 1.
- 1991-1992: A re-arranged version of the theme, this time with an electric guitar and no bells at the end.
Availability: Rare; tape trading is the only way to see it.
Scare Factor: None; this is a very clean logo.
3rd Logo
(1992-1993)
Nicknames: "The Neon Rainbow Rectangles", "The Rainbow Trail", "The Pretty Colored Squares" "YTV (ID3) Chapter 1#: YTV Is Going Pretty"
Logo: On a black background, we see a bunch of neon rainbow rectangles flying in different directions in trails. The YTV logo is seen outlined in white (or was it black?) , but when the trails pass by, the YTV letters disappear. There are 5 rainbow trails: the first one is yellow with orange, the second is orange with light blue, the third is purple with yellow, the fourth is green with light purple, and the last trail is in blue with yellow, forming the YTV letters in red.
Variants: On Are You afraid of the Dark?, "PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH" is shown above the YTV logo. Lucklily, It was previously re-ran in the United States on Nicktoons Network and The N in October 2008. It also contains the ending theme playing over it. It is also cut short only showing the blue and yellow rectangles forming the logo.
FX/SFX: The rainbow trail effects moving in different directions.
Cheesy Factor: Early CGI effects. The rainbow trail's colors are also a little too dark.
Music/sounds: A female choir singing with dreamy music when used as an on-air ID on YTV. During at the end of TV shows, it is usually silent, or contains the end theme of the show.
Availability: Extremely rare; it was last seen on early episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark? in the United States on Nicktoons Network and The N in October 2008, but as of today, It is no longer re-running on television in the United States and this logo may be near extinction from North American television outside of tape-trading. They used to show this in Canada as one of YTV's bumpers.
Scare Factor: None to minimal for the variant with the singing choir. This is a beautiful logo, but borders on low to medium for the Are You Afraid of the Dark? variant due to the ending theme. But it would kinda get worse with the following two logos ...
4th Logo
(1993-1995)
Nicknames: "No Problem I", "WHA-WOWWWWWWWWWWW! No Problem I" "Screaming YTV I", "WHA-WOWWWWWWWWWWW! I" "YTV Chapter 2: Mario's T.V Is Screaming"
Logo: On a black background, we see a purple television set with green buttons on the right side of it. Inside the TV screen is an orange background with the white letters "YTV", with "T" and "V" on the left, and arranged on top of each other. The YTV text then "explodes" out of the screen to cover up most of the TV set.
Variants: On Are you afraid of the Dark?, the white text "Produced in association with" is seen above.
FX/SFX: The text "exploding".
Cheesy Factor: The unexpected loud scream, not to mention the choppy animation of the YTV text.
Music/Sounds: Either the end theme of the show, or a loud scream followed by a girl saying "No problem.".
Availability: Extinct on TV in the United States, where it was last seen on Nickelodeon airings of the first two seasons of Are You Afraid of the Dark?. In Canada, it can be found on a YTV program of the Christmas special Christopher the Christmas Tree. "Are you Afraid of the Dark?" was last seen in the United States on Nicktoons Network and The N in October 2008 and this logo was luckily saved during re-runs. It can now be possible that this logo is now Extinct.
Scare Factor: None for the variant with the end theme, but medium to high for the variant with the loud scream. Surprisingly, an unexpected scream that combined with a black background definitely don't go well together, especially if you haven't seen it before. None to low who are used to seeing it.
5th Logo
(1994-2007)

Nicknames: "The YTV that Doesn't Scream", "Screaming YTV II" "Whoa-POW-WWW! No Problem! II", "No Problem II", "Whoa-POW-WWW! II" "BOING!" "YTV Chapter 3: Mario's TV is in CGI and Not Screaming"
Logo: On a black background, we see the same television set as before, except the design of the set and looks slightly different. The text "YTV", arranged the same way as before but looking a little different font-wise, rapidly zooms out from the right and smashes into the TV set, making the TV set "lean back". The TV then comes into place, now with the YTV text in the screen of the set. The text "Produced in association with" appears above the set.
Bylines: There are two bylines used, both of which credit Corus Entertainment, which bought the channel in 1999: The first has the Corus logo with "A CORUS ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" next to it. Later on, it uses the byline "A Corus Entertainment Company", with "Corus" in its corporate font.
FX/SFX: Just the words zooming out.
Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show, or no music at all.
Music/Sound Variants:
- On seasons 1 and 2 of Reboot, the audio from the 4th logo plays. Season 3 used a short hip-hop tune.
- The Big Comfy Couch had a "BOING!" sound variant. In 1999, After the logo forms, the byline "A Corus Entertainment Company" appears.
Availability: Common in both the U.S. and Canada. In the U.S., it can be seen on shows such as Jane and the Dragon on Qubo, and earlier episodes of The Big Comfy Couch (which are no longer airing here, but could possibly be seen in Canada), while in Canada, it can be seen on all pre-2006 YTV original programming. The Reboot variant is scarce, however, and can be only seen when aired on Teletoon Retro and on DVD. Also, it can be seen on the first season of Grossology. Scare Factor: None to minimal for the regular variant, but low to medium for the "BOING!" variant.
6th Logo
(2007- )
Nicknames: "Jungle of Lines" "Yellow Lines", "Swirling Tornado", "YTV Circle III" "YTV Chapter 4: YTV Is a NINJA"
Logo: On a blue and cyan gradient background with revolving white lines, we see a lots of white and blue lines coming together to form a cyan and white circle with "YTV" on it, arranged similarly to the previous logos. "PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH" is shown above, while "A CORUS ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" (with "Corus" in its usual corporate font) is shown below.
FX/SFX: The lines forming the logo.
Music/Sounds: Silent, or the ending theme of the show.
Availability: Recently spotted on Edgar & Ellen on Nicktoons Network in the United States. However, this is far more common in Canada because most cartoons and shows that air on Canada usually carry this logo at the end of most of YTV's post-2007 programming.
Scare Factor: None to minimal; it's a tame logo.
