Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, Florida1st (known) Logo
(1979-1993)
Nickname: "Flying Tropical Letters"
Logo: Against a
yellow-
teal gradient background, the call letters "WEDU", in a rounded font, and containing an image of a beach with a palm tree, fly all over the screen close to the viewer. Once they settle in place, "TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG", in the same font, fade in, and a white light passes over the letters, then, we fade out.
FX: The letters flying, the light passing through. Not bad for 1980's effects.
Music/Sounds: A sound of waves crashing to shore, along with three pounding synth beats, a synth-organ note held down, and three more pounding synth beats, ending with two "dings".
Availability: Extinct; I don't even know what shows had this logo!
Scare Factor: Minimal to low because of the music.
2nd Logo
(1993-1996)
Nickname: "Under the Sea"
Logo: Set against a sand background, water ripples form the current WEDU logo, which consists of the call letters in a very tall, thin font, with three curvy flags colored red, green, and blue to form the spike of the E. "A Production Of" can be seen above the logo, and "TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG" can be seen below.
Variant: Sometimes, "A Production Of" is omitted.
FX: The water ripples.
Music/Sounds: A short piano sounder with waves crashing ashore. More often than not, it had the closing theme of the show playing over.
Availability: Can be spotted on tapes of
The Adventures of Dudley the Dragon. Early
Reppies episodes (well, at least one I know) and early episodes of
The Huggabug Club have this logo as well.
Scare Factor: None.
3rd Logo
(1996-)
Nickname: "Over the Sea"
Logo: Same logo as the previous, but from a rightward angle, and set against a white-blue gradient background over light-blue colored water, with little ripples under the logo, which shine a bit.
FX: The water ripples, the logo shining.
Music/Sounds: Same as previous.
Availability: Was on
The Reppies,
Swamp Critters of the Lost Lagoon, and
The Huggabug Club.
Scare Factor: None.
