Various Television Logos
Compiled by Sean Beard, James Fabiano, Jason Jones, and Matt Williams
Base Productions
(2007)
Logo: On a black background, we see:
Blair Entertainment
(1982-1987)
Logo: The word "BLAIR," in yellow, flies to the top of the screen with trail effects (usually ov
er the closing scene of the show). Under that, a yellow light writes out a red, cursive "Entertainment." A pair of lines is drawn both above and below the logo, and a stylized logo of some sort appears in the middle of the bottom pair. It is a white box with what looks like a "dB", actually is the initials of the name, "Blair Entertainment" created by green, red, and blue boxes and lines. When the logo's completed, the background turns a shaded blue..
FX: "BLAIR" flying, the rest of the logo being "drawn."
Music/Sounds: Starts with a "whoosh" as "BLAIR" flies, then three light, relaxing and peaceful long tones. After the first one, 3 digital-like notes are heard.
Availability: Extinct. Appeared on some TV Shows from the '80s, such as "Divorce Court", "Break the Bank" (1985 version), "SCTV" and syndicated prints of "The Cisco Kid".
Scare Factor: Low, bordering on medium; the word "BLAIR" coming out of nowhere during the show's parting scene may be unnerving.

Broadway Video
1st Logo
(1979- )
Nicknames: "City Disc", "Spinning City", "The SNL Logo", "The City V"
Logo: Against a black BG, a scene of a nighttime city (colored as if green lights are shining on it) against a blue sky that reflects against a dark sea zooms back, revealing a gold circle decorated with the words "BROADWAY VIDEO" in silver. It spins once, and
as the logo stops, a red "V"-shaped bolt of lightning crosses it. The bolt's left side is as high as the top of the screen, while the right stops in the circle.
FX: The zoom-out, the circle, the lightning bolt. Very ahead-of-its-time effects used here!
Music/Sounds: Silent, or the end of the show's theme.
Availability: Common; appears on "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night with Conan O' Brien" on NBC, and is kept on the former show's reruns on E! Can also be seen on the various DVD releases of "The Kids in the Hall", and on original printings of the CBS TV special "Frosty Returns" and other Rankin-Bass specials on VHS.
Scare Factor: None; this logo has held up remarkably well over the past 20+ years it has been used on SNL.
2nd Logo
(2006- )
Carson Productions
(1983-1992)
Logo: We start out with a brightly-lit city skyline, then the outlined word "CARSON" zo
oms out from us to a comfortable distance, on a gray background. Three thick light-blue horizontal lines wipe in from right to left, filling the outlined word "CARSON" with blue and at the same time, the word "PRODUCTIONS" wipes in the same direction in sync with the horizontal lines. Sometimes, the copyright info is seen below it.
FX: The zoom-out of "CARSON", the wiping in of the horizontal lines and "PRODUCTIONS".
Cheesy Factor: The effort is there, but the quality turns out a bit poor, in both picture and sound.
Music/Sounds: A loud five-note bombastic horn fanfare with a "WHOOSH" accompanying the wiping in of the horizontal lines and "PRODUCTIONS". There is also a variation in which only the last three notes are played.
Availability: Still seen at the end of "Amen" episodes when reran. Also existed at the end of "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes" with the outro of the show's theme music. "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" is another show with this logo.
Scare Factor: Medium, because of the music.

Fuji Television Network
(1993- )

Nicknames: "The Eye," "FCI"
Logo: A silver shape flies backwards and in a turning motion. It is revealed to be an abstract drawing of a eye with three eyelashes and a round pupil that stops in the middle of the black screen and "twinkles". As the small flash from the "twinkle" shrinks away, the screen turns white and the eye changes color as well (the pupil turns red, and the rest black). Above and below the eye, blocks of "static" turn into words in blue-colored letters. Above it is "FUJI TELEVISION NETWORK, INC." Below the eye is, "FUJI CREATIVE CORPORATION".
Variants:
FX: The eye logo turning, the screen changing colors, and the words appearing.
Music/Sounds: A dreamy chiming sound that gives the impression of flying. Ends with a synthesized ring.
Availability: Can be seen at the end of "Iron Chef" (the original series, not "Iron Chef USA") on the Food Network. The eye logo is also associated with FCI, which made video games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It also appears on Japanese morning shows seen on some cable channels.
Scare Factor: Low; this logo is not very scary.

Gaylord Production Company
1st (known) Logo
(1980-1986)
Nickname: "The G"
Logo: On a black background, we see a "G" made up of three lines; one red, one orange, and one yellow. "In Association With" is shown above in a pink typewriter font, and "GAYLORD PRODUCTION CO." is shown below in a white Bauhaus 93 font.
FX: None; it's a still logo.
Music/Sounds: Just the ending theme of the show.
Availability: Appeared on Galaxy Rangers.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo
(1986-1988)
Nickname: "The G Ball"

Logo: Against a blue/black gradient BG, a silver CGI ball zooms in and quickly fades out. The "G" from the 1st logo, except in silver, is drawn in. "GAYLORD PRODUCTION COMPANY", in black, and below a thin black line, is shown below.
FX: '80s CGI animation.
Cheesy Factor: The ball and "G" animation.
Music/Sounds: A deep synth bass ending in a synth fanfare.
Availability: Appeared on Six Against The Rocks.
Scare Factor: Low.

JM Production Company
(1982-1984)
Nickname: "JM in the City", "JM City"
Logo: We see the letters "JM", in pink, and in a stylized font. The letters are also designed to look like a city: In "J" are some building shapes, and in "M" there is an outline of a bridge. Not really a logo, more of an in-credit notice.
FX: None; it's just an in-credit notice.
Cheesy Factor: Of all things, why the godawful pink color?!
Music/Sounds: The outro of Starcade, with announcer Kevin McMahon saying, "This is Kevin McMahon speaking. Starcade is a JM Production."
Availability: Only appeared on the video arcade game show Starcade in the early 1980s, which hasn't been rerun on TV since 2004. However, 15 episodes are available for viewing at the Starcade official website. (Actually, one other show does use this logo at the end-- a show called "The Video Game", hosted by Greg Winfield.)
Scare Factor: None.

Joe Hamilton Productions
(1982-1990)
Nickname: "JHP"
Logo: On a black background, we see a red "J". Then, a short, red line comes out of the middle of the "J" from the right, and then a vertical line is drawn with the end of the "short line" as the midpoint, forming an "H". A red "P" then forms on the "H" with only the "hump" of the "P" being drawn out. Then, "A JOE HAMILTON PRODUCTION" appears below.
FX: The animation of the letters.
Cheesy Factor: The animation looks way too simple, not to mention they don't even animate the "P" correctly; it just appears.
Music/Sounds: None; has the Mama's Family theme over it.
Availability: Can still be seen on Mama's Family when reran.
Scare Factor: Medium; very few are big fans of "connecting letters" on black backgrounds (ala 2nd Lorimar logo).
_______________________________________________________________
Litton Syndications
(1990's- )
Logo: On a cloudy gray BG, a diagonal blue square whose bottom seems to be ripped off appears via a flashing effect. At the same time, a marker can be seen on the bottom left (look VERY closely). The words "LITTON SYNDICATIONS" in white Impact font is written on it. The text shines with a few gray lines and the square shines with a ping at the top left.
FX: The appearance of the box, the shine.
Cheesy Factor: Another logo with little effort put into it.
Music/Sounds: Just the music from the Watercourse Road Productions logo (see below).
Availability: Only known to be sometimes seen on Critter Gitters, a locally-aired nature show that airs on KLHU-CA, which is a local low-power TV station in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The show has also aired on KIKU-TV in Honolulu, Hawaii. At least one episode is shows on the show's website, www.crittergitters.com, so it shouldn't be too hard for most people on the Internet to find it.
Scare Factor: None.

Michael Mann Productions
(1984-1990)

Logo: On a black background, a row of lines arranged like a rectangle and a weird "splotch" thing continually switch places, with the splotch ending up on the left and the line thing ending up on the right. Over this image, the huge words "MICHAEL MANN" are seen in a very weird font, with "a" above and "production" below, all in lower-case letters.
FX: The "flipping" animation.
Cheesy Factor: Ugly, UGLY logo . The animation is quick and badly done, and the font is really cheesy.
Music/Sounds: No music, but the end theme of Miami Vice seems to fit the logo here.
Availability: It and the '80s Universal logo are still preserved on "Miami Vice" on Sleuth and on the show's DVD releases.
Scare Factor: Medium; the ugliness is going to put off some people.
_______________________________________________________________
Peter M. Cohen Productions
(2007- )
Logo: On a white background with Greek-style buildings marbled in, we see a black pencil rolling in to the front. When it stops, we see "Peter M. Cohen Productions", in white, printed on the pencil.

Scare Factor: None.

Watercourse Road Productions
Background: Watercourse Road is a television production company owned by the pro-censorship organization Parents' Television Council.
(Late '90s- )

Logo: On a watery gray BG, the "undulating" words "WATERCOURSE" and "ROAD", in a tall dark green font, zoom out and fade in one after the other. Then, "Productions", in a strange black script font similar to that used in the Renaissance Pictures logo, fades in below. A lens flare shines on the words.
FX: The watery BG, the words appearing and undulating, and the lens flare.
Music/Sounds: A gentle piano/woodwind tune that may also play over the Litton Syndications logo that sometimes follows "Critter Gitters".
Availability: Only known to be seen on Critter Gitters, a locally-aired nature show that airs on KLHU-CA, which is a local low-power TV station in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
