Background: This is the animation production arm of Universal Studios established in 1991 as Universal Cartoon Studios.

1st Logo
(1991-2006)
Universal Cartoon Studios (1991)Universal Cartoon Studios (1993)

Nicknames: "Jetty The Weak Jet Plane", "CGI Globe"

Logo
: We see the 1990-1997 Universal Pictures logo, which proceeds as normal until we fully see the globe. A cartoon version of the biplane from the 1920's Universal logo flies around the globe, leaving a trail of smoke which turns into "UNIVERSAL" (but the R is backwards), and the plane also does this on the bottom of the globe with "CARTOON STUDIOS
" in rainbow colors. The plane stops, and realizes the "R" in "UNIVERSAL" is backwards, and giggles for a bit, and flips it around. Then he floats and looks at the audience. Then he looks at the "R", floats down, then he looks at the audience again.

Variants:
  • There is a variation when the plane looks at the "R", and then the logo fades out. Plus the text moved up a little. It was used in a lot of direct-to-video movies.
  • On VHS releases, the first "S" in "STUDIOS" turns purple.
  • On The Land Before Time 10, 11, and The Adventures of Brer Rabbit, the logo looks a bit darker.
  • This logo is shown in the top left corner along with the 1991 Amblin Television logo on the top right, the Zaloom-Mayfield Productions logo on the bottom left, and Big Pictures logo on the bottom right on Back to the Future - The Animated Series. But, the part where the plane flips the "R" is cut.
  • This logo is also shown in the bottom middle corner along with the 1991 Amblin Television logo on the top left and the 1985 long version of Nelvana Limited logo on the top right on Fievel's American Tales. Sometimes the Universal logo stops when the plane is about to look at the "R".
  • There is a still artwork version of the logo that appears on Opus 'n Bill in A Wish for Wings That Work along with the still Amblin Television logo. Plus, "CARTOON STUDIOS" is all yellow.

FX/SFX: The animation of the logo.

Music/Sounds: A whimsical fanfare that takes a comical tone when the plane appears. In other cases, it used the end of the show's closing theme.

Music/Sound Variants:
  • Starting in 1995, an alternative version of a whimsical fanfare with sound effects was being used on occasion.
  • On the DVD version of The Land Before Time 4, there is a remixed version of the alternative whimsical fanfare with sound effects.

Availability: Appears at the end of movies in The Land Before Time franchise starting with The Land Before Time 2 until 2006. The Land Before Time 6 has the 2nd logo instead. Also appears at the end of the Balto sequels, Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein, Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman, among others. From 1997-1999, it was used in tandem with the 2nd logo. Also appears at the beginning of The Land Before Time 2, 3, and 4. A version, cut down to the last five seconds, appeared at the end of the cartoon shows like Problem Child, Exosquad, The New Woody Woodpecker Show, Wing Commander Academy, and Beethoven. It also appears on international releases of Charlotte's Web 2 - Wilbur's Great Adventure. The last movie to use the logo was The Adventures of Brer Rabbit.

Scare Factor: None; this logo is very funny and cute.

2nd Logo
(1997-1999)

Nickname: "CGI Globe II"
Universal Cartoon Studios (1997)
Logo: Same as the 1997 Universal Television logo, but the name reads as "UNIVERSAL CARTOON STUDIOS" as it fades in under the logo.

Variant: On An American Tail - Mystery of the Night Monster, the logo is bylineless.

FX/SFX: The "fire" behind the globe and the "Universal Cartoon Studios" name fading in.

Music/Sounds: Same as Universal Television 1997.

Availability: Rare. Appears on The Land Before Time 6, An American Tail - Treasure of Manhattan Island, and Hercules and Xena - The Battle For Mount Olympus. A bylineless variant also appears on An American Tail - Mystery of the Night Monster.

Scare Factor: Minimal.

3rd Logo
(2006- )
Universal Animation Studios - CLG WikiUniversal Animation Studios (2006) (Still Version)

Nicknames: "Cartoon Globe", "Boring Globe"

Logo: We first see a more animated version of the "UNIVERSAL" revolving around the earth to view from the left side (unlike the right side in the movie counterpart's logo), and after it finishes revolving, the globe and the text gets squeezed so tight, that later, the "UNIVERSAL" text spins around the earth REALLY, REALLY fast. When it stops spinning, the globe is colored even more vividly, and "ANIMATION STUDIOS" in orange, appears. "UNIVERSAL" is now is white with an orange border. Then a comet comes from the right side, and travels around the earth. The globe shines.

Variants:
  • The shorter variant starts with the logo already formed, and the comet going around the earth is intact. That can be seen on The Land Before Time (TV series) re-runs on Cartoon Network.
  • There is also a still version of the logo which can be seen on Curious George on PBS Kids.

FX/SFX: The globe and "UNIVERSAL" being squeezed, "UNIVERSAL" spinning around the globe very fast, the globe becoming animated and the comet going past the logo.

Music/Sounds: At the start, it has the current Universal Studios theme from 1997-present, then some squeezing sounds, and when the globe becomes animated, a majestic bell tune.

Music/Sound Variants:
  • On Curious George (the 2006 film), we hear George chattering at the end.
  • In other cases, it used the end of the show's closing theme.

Availability: Common. First appeared at the end of Curious George (the 2006 film). It also appeared at the end of The Land Before Time movies from 2006 to present. The short version appeared on The Land Before Time (the TV series) on Cartoon Network. The still version appeared on Curious George (the 2006 series) on PBS.

Scare Factor: Minimal, it looks boring than the first logo.
