Background: United International Pictures (UIP) is a joint venture of Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios to distribute some of the two studio's films theatrically outside United States (including territories) and Canada. It also had rights to distribute films theatrically by DreamWorks (formerly owned by Viacom) and independent films. The company was formed in 1981 after MGM purchased UA and merged its international distribution arm with what was then called Cinema International Corporation, which once had a video division, CIC Video. The company is based in the United Kingdom, with offices in 34 countries, and represented in 23 other countries. Regional offices are in Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Australia. Seven years after their debut, they helped out with Denzel Washington's 1989 film, For Queen and Country. In 2007, the company was renamed Paramount Pictures International. In France, Mexico, Brazil, and the UK, United International Pictures was renamed to Paramount Pictures. In Germany, United International Pictures was renamed to Universal Studios. UIP did not begin using a logo until 1987.
1st Logo
(1987-1997)
Nicknames: "UIP", "The Shining Logo"
Logo: On a black/blue gradient background, we see a flash appearing to reveal the gold "UIP" zooming up with the letters connected together and below it is the words "UNITED INTERNATIONAL PICTURES" fading in then a shine appears and stays on the logo.
FX/SFX: The "UIP" zooming in, the shine.
Music/Sounds: Silent.
Availability: It was only on Paramount/Universal/MGM movies outside of the US and Canada during this era. However, the logo can be spotted on the Celebrity/Just for Kids video release of Stowaways on the Ark.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo
(1997-2001)
Nickname: "UIP"

Logo: On a black background, we see two outlines of "UIP" as in the first logo and then copies as the logo turns blue and yellow. Below it, we see the text "UNITED INTERNATIONAL PICTURES" appeared in the same font as logo 1 as the logo "shines".
Variant: There is a special variant in which the URL www.uip.com fades in below the logo.
FX/SFX: The logo "copying'' and shining.
Music/Sounds: Silent.
Availability: Appears on some UIP movies distributed outside of North America like The Rugrats Movie and Antz, among others before either the Paramount logo, the Universal logo, or the DreamWorks logo appeared.
Scare Factor: None.
3rd Logo
(2001-2004)
Nickname: "The Blue Square"
Logo: On a black/blue gradient background, we see the text "united international pictures" in lowercase letters, with www.uip.com below it. Suddenly, a blue square zooms out on screen and over a square is a white "UIP" (see logos 1 and 2). The background then turns black for reason.
Variants:
- Sometimes, the square would remained dark green.
- There is a long version of this logo.
FX/SFX: The blue square zooming out, the screen turning black.
Music/Sounds: Possibly silent.
Availability: Appears on several UIP movies before either the Paramount logo, the Universal logo or the DreamWorks logo come on. The long version is rare.
Scare Factor: None.
4th Logo
(2004-2007)
Nickname: "The Blocks"

Logo: On a white background, several blocks zoomed in from the screen. The camera pans to reveal the United International Pictures logo as in logo 3, with the URL www.uip.com underneath the logo. Several blocks are now zoomed out to fix the logo.
Variant: There is a short version of this logo.
FX/SFX: The blocks fixing the logo.
Music/Sounds: Just "swoosh" sound effects while the blocks forming the logo. In the short version, none.
Availability: No longer current, since United International Pictures was renamed to Paramount Pictures (in Germany, Universal Pictures), but this logo was very hard-to-find. Can be seen on UIP movies before either the Paramount logo, the Universal logo, the DreamWorks logo, or the DreamWorks Animation logo appear.
Scare Factor: None.
