The Video Collection
1st Logo
(1985-1989)
Logo: On a gray background, several white lines appear. A black rectangle with "COLLECTION" at the bottom flips up from the bottom of the screen and "THE" flies and flips from the top. Then "VIDEO", in a red rectangle, swoops from behind the "COLLECTION" box and plasters itself on it.
FX: The swooping and flipping. Not bad for 1985!
Music/Sounds: A 13 note synth theme, accompanied by 4 deeper synths. Then 3 synthesized chords when "VIDEO" appears.
Availability: Can be seen on any releases of cartoons (mostly Hanna-Barbera and Ruby-Spears) in the UK.
Scare Factor: Low to medium; the music might scare some, but at least a favorite among many.
2nd Logo
(1986-1998)
Logo: On a white marble-like background, we see parts of what looks like a giant computer/TV flying into the screen. Coming together, they spin around and zoom in to the screen. Then a red box appears via "blinds" effect and spins in 3D while a giant V, rendered in 3D, spins from the left of the screen. While this is happening, the screen turns black. When the box and V come together, the screen turns gray, although a black rectangle remains. The rest of "ideo" fades in and some lines pop from below the "VIDEO" box and morph into the word "COLLECTION". Then the logo makes a "shadow effect". Whew! That was long!
Variant: The name of the company would have its name changed in a different language, depending on where the tapes were sold. For instance, on PAL tapes in Spain, the logo reads "Video Coleccion''.
FX: Everything! Lot of effort going here; not too bad for 1986!
Music/Sounds: A synthetic thunderclap, then a little synthesized ditty that sounds like a rock organ. It ends with two drumbeats. On some Spanish PAL tapes, an announcer can be heard thanking us for buying or renting the tape, in Spanish, of course!
Availability: Can be seen on later Thomas the Tank Engine releases in the UK. The early Thomas the Tank Engine releases had the Screen Legends logo. The Spanish variant can be seen on Yogi's First Christmas. Many think this logo ended in 1994; it appears on a 1998 print of "Sesame Street - Big Bird's Favourite Party Games".
Scare Factor: Minimal; the thunderclap may get to a few, but this is perhaps a cool logo.

(1994-2006)
Logo: Against a black BG with a gray wireframe globe and a bright light in the top left of the screen, a metal object flips in, along with a red sphere. This is later revealed to be a C in "VCI", which flips around as it zooms out (with the sphere in the center). The letters "V" and "I" would later spin in and arrange themselves above and below the C, respectively.
Variant: On DVD releases by the company, the DVD logo, which is also metallic, forms in the top right of the screen.
FX: The flipping letters, sphere, light, and globe. It's kinda cool.
Music/Sounds: A calm synth tune with some whooshing sounds.
Availability: Can be seen from releases from this time, including Phoenix Nights, amongst others.
Scare Factor: Low.

(2006- )
Logo: On a black BG, a few bright flashes occur at the bottom. Then, the words "2 | entertain", in blue, zoom out one-by-one, all while the flash continues to occur. Then, the words zoom out and the flash dies down.
FX: The flash and zooming words.
Music/Sounds: A series of calm synth notes with a 4-note synth tune in between.
Availability: Current. It sometimes plasters TVC or VCI logos.
Scare Factor: Minimal, due to the (slight) darkness and music. Otherwise, none. It's kinda nice.

If The Video Collection's 2nd Logo dates from 1989-1994, how come one of my tapes has that logo even though the tape is from 1986?
