(1936-1940)

Nickname: "The Mansion"
Selznick International Pictures - CLG WikiSelznick International Pictures - CLG WikiSelznick International Pictures (1937) RARE!!!

Logo: We see a pale pink-colored sign against a partly cloudy sky that reads

A
SELZNICK INTERNATIONAL
PICTURE

There are also shadows of trees rustling in the wind that are cast onto the sign. A few seconds later, the camera pans downward to reveal the exterior shot of a mansion, which was the Selznick Studio.

Variants:
  • There is a black-and-white variant of this logo in which the sign reads "THE SELZNICK STUDIO" or "A SELZNICK RELEASE" instead.
  • "Made for Each Other" had this logo in reverse, but has "IN A TRADITION OF QUALITY" over the mansion.
  • There's a rare different version of this logo seen on The Prisoner of Zenda and A Star is Born in which the sign reads "SELZNICK INTERNATIONAL PICTURES INCORPORATED" instead; this version is on the DVD of the film.

FX: It's all live-action.

Music/Sounds: A fanfare composed by Alfred Newman (the same composer as the 20th Century Fox fanfare). It starts off with an eight-note church bell tune, which is followed by a triumphant seven-note brass fanfare.

Availability: Uncommon; the color variant can be found on Gone With the Wind, A Star is Born, and Nothing Scared, while the more common B&W variant can be found on such Selznick-produced films like Little Lord Fauntleroy, Rebecca, and The Prisoner of Zenda.

Scare Factor: None whatsoever. This logo has a pleasant setting and a great fanfare, perhaps one of the best logo fanfares of all time.

There's an ugly, different Selznick International Pictures logo variant in which the sign reads "SELZNICK INTERNATIONAL PICTURES INCORPORATED" instead. It's from "The Prisoner of Zenda" and "A Star is Born".
