Background: This independent film company was founded in 1979 by Samuel Goldwyn, Jr., the son of the famous Hollywood mogul, Samuel Goldwyn, to produce and distribute independent films mainly. After, that company and its library were acquired by Metromedia in 1996, and sold to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1997, where the rights stand today, but in 2001, Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. founded his new company named Samuel Goldwyn Films to continue releasing independent films.

Nickname: "The Signature"

Logo
: On a blue background, we see the words "Samuel Goldwyn" writing themselves in a script font, with a line drawing itself underneath the name. Then "A" and "RELEASE" appear above and below "Samuel Goldwyn", respectively.

Variants: There are four variations. The first, starting in the late 80's, has the words "THE SAMUEL GOLDWYN COMPANY" flying up from the bottom of the screen and positioning themselves underneath the "Samuel Goldwyn" name, otherwise fading in. The second, which has been used since 2001, has the text "SAMUEL GOLDWYN FILMS" fading in underneath the "Samuel Goldwyn" name. The third is the closing variant that has "DISTRIBUTED BY" above the logo. The fourth is a black & white variant that appears at the beginning of classic Goldwyn movies.

FX: The "Samuel Goldwyn" name writing itself, the line drawing.

Music/Sounds: None originally. For the later years, the logo has a dramatic fanfare.

Music/Sound Variant: On MirrorMask, the jingle is fast-paced.

Availability: Can be seen on all Samuel Goldwyn films from the era, such as Mystic Pizza, Rock-a-Doodle, and on earlier international prints of Two Moon Junction among others. It can also be seen on the MST3K broadcasts of Escape from the Bronx (Shown as Escape 2000) and Laserblast. Other films this logo appeared on include MirrorMask and Super Size Me.

Scare Factor: Low, mainly due to the fanfare. Minimal for the silent variant.
