Rhino Home Video

Logo description by mr3urious
Logo captures and videos courtesy of Eric S. and vhsguy2007

Background: This is the home video arm of Rhino Records, now part of the Warner Music Group, subsidiary of Time Warner.

1st Logo
(1980's)
Rhino Home VideoRhino Home Video - CLG Wiki

Nickname : "1, 2, 3...RHINO"

Logo: On a "stone" background, we see the number one. The screen "flashes" and we see the number two. Again, we see a number three. Then on the fourth flash, we see a crappily drawn rhino (wearing what looks like a leather jacket and gloves and a modified Elvis haircut) in a TV tube, with the word RHINO over him, changing colours and VIDEO below. A yellow "haze" surrounds the rhino.

FX: The "flashing".

Cheesy Factor: Don't get me started. First of all, the flashing is very dated. Second, that stone background looks very fake. Third, what the hell is with that rhino? He looks like he's about to kill you (or pinch you, if you look at his hand). If they put a picture of a real rhino in there, it would be much better.

Music/Sounds: TBA

Availability: Very rare. This was on the earliest Rhino tapes.

Scare Factor: Medium to high, depending on your taste of the "rhino".

2nd Logo
(Late 80's-Late 90's)
Rhino Home Video - CLG Wiki

Nickname: "The Football"

Logo: Against a light gray marble BG, the words "RHINO" (in jumbled silver letters) come in from the right side of the screen, along with a red 3D oval (looking kind of like a football). They turn to face us and zoom back, then the lights dim.

FX: The text and "football"; decent '80s CGI.

Music/Sounds: A synth bass sounder with a dramatic UAV-like "whoosh" when the logo comes in.

Availability: Can be seen on the South Park VHS's from 1998-1999.

Scare Factor: Low to medium, due to the music.

3rd Logo
(Late 1990s-)
Rhino Home Video - CLG Wiki

Logo: Against a black BG, a 2D version of the Rhino logo from before (in a brighter red color from before) zooms up. It shines with a lens flare, and "HOME VIDEO", in purple, fades in below.

FX: The zoom and shine.

Cheesy Factor: Too simple for a late 90's logo.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic synth-string sounder with a "bling" during the shine, and ending with a short choir tune and a "slam" sound.

Availability: Seen on recent DVD's of music videos.

Scare Factor: Low; although tamer than before, the music is sure to give some people the chills.
