Logo descriptions and captures by Eric S. and Wisp2007

1st Logo
(1982-1986)
Rank Video (1982-1986)

Nickname: "Gongman VHS 1"

Logo: On a green background, we see the Rank Organisation "gong man" and gong being drawn in, while a rounded rectangle draws in, too. The logo zooms in, and we see white lines coming from both sides of the screen as "Rank Video Library" in a segmented font slides in.

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: Cheap '80s computer animation.

Music/Sounds: A droning synthesizer turn that's just as evil as the 1986 logo's music.

Availability: EXTREMELY (and I mean extremely) rare. May be found on old Rank VHS releases from the period.

Scare Factor: Medium to high for the dramatic music. That's nothing compared to the next logo, though...

2nd Logo
(1986-1988)
J. Arthur Rank Organisation - CLG WikiJ. Arthur Rank Organisation - CLG Wiki

Nicknames: "RANK THUNDER!", “Man Hitting Gong”

Logo
: On a black background, we see black words "RANK VIDEO" in blue outline zooming, then the words color themselves blue and zoom out. After this, an icon of a man hitting a gong (in the same color as "RANK VIDEO") flips in.

FX/SFX: All 80's computer generated animation.

Cheesy Factor: And it's not very good computer animation, either, especially with the Rank Video trail zooming out, as well as the flipping from the text to the "man hitting gong" logo.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic synthesized sound that resembles a thunderstorm.

Availability: Appeared on Rank releases of Cannon Films movies. This also appeared on UK PAL releases of Orion films during the '80s.

Scare Factor: High to NIGHTMARE; The music may remind you of a scary thunderstorm. However, the logo appears to be a fan favorite, based on the comments in the video on YouTube (on CannonFilms' account).

3rd Logo
(1988-1991)

Rank Home Video (1989)

Nickname: "Cheap Gong Man"

Logo: A hand drawn version of the gong man rotates in. The man hits the gong again, and glows green and shines, while the words "Rank Home Video" wipe in.

FX/SFX: All '80s computer generated animation plus traditional animation.

Music/Sounds: A synthesized fanfare with a gong sound when the man hits the gong.

Availability: Appeared on Rank releases of Cannon Films movies from 1988-1991.

Scare Factor: Low to medium; much better than the other one.
