ImaVision
(Late 1998-2005)

Various Home Video logos - CLG Wiki

Nickname: The V-shaped Filmstrip

Logo: On a black-blue CGI starfield, we see a wording piece that rise up to reveal the word IMAVISION (with IMA in a strange cheap font and VISION in an Arial font. The V is bigger than the other letters). Meanwhile, green and blue filmstrips glide from the screen until they zoom away. Then a spark draws a line under IMAVISION on the bottom of the V, and a V-shaped green and blue filmstrip zooms out to connect on the V. The logo ''shines''.

FX/SFX: The line growing, the V-shaped filmstrip zooming out and the IMAVISION rising up.

Music/Sounds
: A well-known electric keyboard tune.

Availability: Found on nearly every Imavision VHS and DVD release from the era. The current TV print is seen on late 2004 DVD releases, although this logo is still seen unti 2005. On early DVD releases, there is no Warning screen before this logo. On every VHS release, the Warning screen is seen before this logo (black background until mid-2000, blue background starting mid-2000 until 2003).

Scare Factor: Very sharp and dark.

Nova Home Video/Entertainment
(1985-1996)
Nova Home Video ( 1987)Nova Entertainment ( 1985)
Logo: We see a shot of clouds billowing forth (a la CTHV 1993). Suddenly, they reveal a bright blue flash and a stylized N block flipping and twirling towards us until it faces us. When it does, it flashed blue and shines, revealing the word ''NOVA'' in blue, glowing. A "spark" writes the cursive letter 'E'' and then ''N''. ''ENTERTAINMENT'' flies up from the bottom with a shadow trail. The "N" block shines again.

FX/SFX: Great CGI.

Variants:
  • Sometimes ''HOME VIDEO'' replaces ''ENTERTAINMENT''.
  • Sometimes after the ''ENTERTAINMENT'' is finished with its animation, the word ''ENTERTAINMENT'' fades out, and the word ''HOME VIDEO'' flies in (with a "shadow" effect).
Music/Sounds: A light synthesized fanfare coupled with a few laser zaps.

Availability: Rare.

Scare Factor: Low; this is perhaps one of the best animated logos from the '80s!

Penguin Home Video
(1982-1980s)
Penguin Home Video (1982)
Nickname: ''The Penguin''

Logo: On a black background, a live-action clip of a penguin "flips" into the screen. In the clip, the penguin is looking around, turning its head. The text ''Penguin HOME VIDEO'', with ''PENGUIN'' in a curvy font, is superimposed onto the screen, with what looks like an abstract penguin drawing on the right. All the text and the penguin symbol are in yellow. Then it "flips" out.

FX/SFX: The flipping, the live-action clip, the drawing of the abstract penguin, the flip out.

Cheesy Factor: The graphics are your typical cheesy chyron effects, and the music is so hard to hear.

Music/Sounds: An extremely cheesy big-band synthesizer tune played at a ridiculously low volume.

Availabilty: Seen on old workout videos from Pat Boone in the 1980s. Look on eBay.

Scare Factor: None; this logo is just plain boring (although the penguin does look cute).

Raedon Home Video
(1980-198?)

Raedon Home Video

Logo: On a white background, we see the Raedon logo, consisting of two layers of text with "rae" on the top and "don" on the bottom in a tubular font. The R and the D appear connected. Between the "AE" and the "ON" of "RAEDON", we see the phrase "ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, INC." with a line under it. Next to the "ON", we see the phrase, in smaller text, "FORMERLY HOME MOVIE MOGUL, INC".

FX/SFX: None; it's a still logo.

Music/Sounds: A
synthesized tribal-like sounder.

Availability: Extremely rare; Raedon Home Video produced a lot of awful B-movies, and many of the releases which had been originally distributed by then moved to other distributors. For more on the history of Raedon Video ( and others ) , see this page.

Scare Factor: Low; it looks cheap, but is relatively tame.

View Video
(1980s-1991?)
View Video (1980s-1991)
Logo: On a periwinkle background, a white dot appears. After a few seconds, the words ''VIEW VIDEO'', in a stylish sans-serif font, appear, with the white dot dotting the I in ''VIEW''. After a few more seconds, a fan "unfolds" around the white dot, and fills itself in with rainbow colors. Then the rainbow colors in the fan spin around. Then the whole thing shrinks to half its size, scoots to the left on a blue background, and brings forth the words "Presenting the Best", along with the words "Jazz & Pop Music", "Fine Arts", "Health & Fitness", and "Family Programs". The words stay there for a few seconds, then it cuts to the company's address. Then the ''VIEW VIDEO'' animation slowly takes up the whole screen again and the word ''PRESENTS'' appears below ''VIDEO''. It fades out, and the whole thing zooms away with a "dissolve" effect.

FX/SFX: All the chyron effects in the logo.

Music/Sounds: A jazzy tune with drums and the occasional brass riff.

Availability: Very rare; this company was very short-lived and only released a handful of tapes.

Scare Factor: None, BUT it is long and annoying, so some people might fast-forward through this logo.
