Educational Pictures/Film Exchanges

Background: Educational Pictures was an early film company that produced and distributed short subject materials in the 1920's. Some of the Felix the Cat silent cartoons were distributed by Educational Pictures. This continued until at least 1938.

Nicknames: "The Spice of the Program", "Aladdin's Lamp"

At the bottom of the lamp, the words "The Spice of the Program" are below the lamp. Then the logo appears full screen with a real photo of a lamp and above the lamp, "Educational Pictures" is written out, and below it are the words, "The Spice of the Program".

FX: The logo quickly fading in from top to bottom after the first opening credits.

Music: Whatever short or cartoon was playing.

Availability: Probably rare, considering the age of the company, and the possibility that TV or home movie distributors may have retitled the shorts and cartoons. Can be seen occasionally on PBS's "Matinee At the Bijou".

Scare Factor: Low to medium; the live action lamp appearing in the middle of the opening credits may startle some people.

NTA, Black and White versionVarious Kids' Companies - CLG Wiki

The words "National Telefilm Associates, Inc" are in all capital letters, with the N, T, and A, in larger letters. This logo appeared at the start and end of Paramount cartoons distributed to television in the 1950's. At the end, the same logo described above would appear, except this time, there was a COPYRIGHT followed by the year that the cartoon was made, and the words "BY U.M.&M. TV CORP.", For Betty Boop cartoons there is a black and white version with the title "Release" in italics.

FX: None; this is a still logo.

Music
: The same as the U.M.&M. logo.

Availability
: Most of the Paramount non-Popeye cartoons have this logo present. A bit more common than U.M.&M., this logo is on numerous public domain cartoon videos. However, if Paramount, which owns these cartoons, starts restoring the titles, look for these two logos to disappear.

Scare Factor: Low; the scratchy prints may bother some people.

SFM Entertainment

(1977- )

Nickname: "SFM Rainbow", "Rainbow Fill"

Logo: On a black background are white outlines to the letters "sfm" (though the "M" is a capital one despite being shorter than the "f") Each letter is then filled with a rainbow pattern of colors. All but the "M" are filled from the top. The "M" is filledVarious Kids' Companies - CLG Wiki starting at its left.

FX
: The letters being filled.

Music: A series of morse code beeps typing out "SFM" in morse code over and over. Sometimes, a voice, that of SFM co-founder Stanley K. Moger, was heard saying various phrases; these are seen below.

Music/SFX Variants:
  • The original logo was completely silent, and after the letters were colored in, the words "An SFM Media Service Corporation Presentation" appeared beneath them. This was seen on 1977-1978 prints of "The New Mickey Mouse Club."
  • From 1978 until 1985, the announcer's spiel was "An SFM Media Service Corporation Television Presentation."
  • From 1985 until 1998, the announcer's spiel was "Distributed by the SFM Entertainment Division of SFM Media Corporation." This is the most well-known variant.
  • Since 1998, there has been no announcer. The word "Entertainment" appears under the SFM logo, and the morse code beeps are higher-pitched.

Availability: Rare. Currently Seen on the Christmas special "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" on Cartoon Network during Christmas. Was seen on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" reruns on Trio, but the channel has been off the air for nearly two years now and before that in the 1990's after reruns of "Care Bears" on the Disney Channel and "The Flip Wilson Show" on TV Land.

Snee-Oosh, Inc.

Background: This is the vanity card for "Hey Arnold!". It too was seen on "Hey Arnold!, The Movie".

(1996-2004)
Various Kids, Family and Animation Logos - CLG WikiVarious Kids, Family and Animation Logos - CLG Wiki

Nicknames: "The Totem Pole", "Snee OOOOOOOSH"

Logo: On a brown background, we see a tall totem pole bird. Under it are the words "SNEE-OOSH, INC.", made out of brown logs.

Early Variant: In this logo's early days, the text "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" (in the "Hey Arnold!" font) was above the logo.

FX: None this is a still logo.

Cheesy Factor: None for the version with the outro of "He
y Arnold's" closing theme over it. The one with the vocal line is a different story.

Music: Usually had the end theme of Hey Arnold. However, Nickelodeon's split screen credits cut off the end theme, so on split-screen Nick airings, the logo used a creepy chorus singing "Snee-OOOOOOOSH" for music, followed by a weird flute/gong tune which played over the following Nickelodeon logo.

Availability: The original version survives when "Hey Arnold!" is reran on Nicktoons Network. The variation with the chorus is rarely seen nowadays and only appears on rare occasions when Nick reruns "Hey Arnold!".

Scare Factor:
Depending on the logo variant:
  • None for the variant with the outro of "Hey Arnold's" closing theme.
  • Medium to high for the creepy, startling voices singing "Snee-OOOOOOOOSH!" and gong/flute sound on the split-screen variant.

U.M.&M. TV Corporation

Background: Appeared in the 1950's on television prints distributed by U.M.&M.T.V. before their merger with National Telefilm Associates, see below. The letters U.M.&M. stood for United Film Service, Minot T.V., and MTA-TV.

(1955-1957)

Version from a Syndicalizated Betty Boop Cartoon (1950s)Various Kids' Companies - CLG WikiVersion from "Lost Dream" Cartoon (Edited titles and omited the original credits) (1950s)

Nickname: "The Blue U.M.&M. Shield"

Logo: A large blue shield is on a reddish-orange background. The words "U.M.&M. T.V. Corp. presents" are on separate lines arranged inside the blue shield in yellow block lettering. The phrase "U.M.&M." is the largest lettering on the logo. The logo only appears once at the start of the film. At the end of the film, the words "THE END, A U.M.&M. T.V. CORP. Presentation" appear, with the word "Presentation"written in cursive lettering. If in black and white, the shield was black on a white background with white lettering.

FX/Cheesy Factor: In the color versions, there was a whitish "glow" around the shield.

Music: Usually the first lines of the cartoon theme, but on some Little Lulu prints, the logo is silent, with a unusually scratchy sound, like a old record playing.

Availability: Seen on certain AMC "Short Cuts". Also on numerous public domain cartoon videos, especially Little Lulu. If you really want to see it, you can buy a $5.00 cartoon video with Paramount cartoons.

Scare Factor: Medium; some people might not like a large blue shield. Also, the scratchy prints and soundtrack may scare people as well.

United Plankton Pictures, Inc.

Background: This is the vanity card of SpongeBob SquarePants' creator Stephen Hillenburg.

(1999- )

Nickname: "Friends of the Sea," "Holding Hands," "The Underwater Logo"

Logo: On a moving ocean background with a reflection of light in the background, we see some crudely drawn sea creatures, one of them being a less detailed drawing
of Plankton (a character on SpongeBob), holding hands. The words:
Various Kids' Companies - CLG Wiki
United Plankton

are above, and the words

Pictures inc.

are below, both written in the "SpongeBob" font.

FX: The ocean background moving.

Trivia: In the episode "Plankton's Army", Plankton's family visits the Chum Bucket and tries to take over the Krusty Krab. They are based off the characters in the United Plankton Pictures logo.

Cheesy Factor: The ocean background is low-budget, the sea creature drawings are very cheap, and the logo itself looks very unprofessional.

Music: Usually, the SpongeBob SquarePants end theme or whatever theme was used on the credits finishes over it. On episodes with split-screen credits, there is the sound of crashing waves and seagulls. On early SpongeBob video releases, there is no music at ALL.

Availability: Can currently be seen on episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon.

Scare Factor: None to low; a well-known and very cute logo, but the bad drawings, the low-budget ocean background, and the cheap look of the logo itself could put some people off.

World Events Productions, Ltd.

(1984-1989)

FX: A still logo, so nothing.

Music: The end theme of "Voltron".

Availability: Currently seen on "Voltron" on Boomerang.

Scare Factor: Low to medium; could make some people nervous with the relatively dark and still logo, combined with the ominous background sounds.
