Nu Metro Home Entertainment (South Africa)
Logo capture by mr3urious
1st Logo
(1987-1995)
Nickname: "Neon Mountain"
Logo: On a black-red gradient background, a group of periwinkle-colored lines shoot out from below. They rotate into place, forming a mountain. A rainbow-colored copy of the mountain spins around while
it zooms into place, from the right side of the screen. A giant "N" zooms out, and "NU METRO", in a blocky font, flips up, and both "PRESENTS" and "BIED AAN" (Afrikaans for "Presents") fade in.
FX: All the animation in the logo...
Cheesy Factor: ...which is typical by 1980s standards.
Music/Sounds: An upbeat synth tune that sounds like something out of MTV or VH1 at the time.
Availability: Check an old South African PAL VHS on eBay for this logo.
Scare Factor: Low.
2nd Logo
(1995- )
Nickname: "Underwater Jungle"
Logo: We see a large drop of water fall into a close-up of water ripples. The camera travels through what looks like a jungle of trees and colored comets as two comets collide and lights swirl and twirl around, forming the Nu Metro logo from before, but with the N colored white and with a purple drop shadow. Purple lines then shoot out from the upper-right, filling in the white border surrounding the mountain. Lights then zoom out to reveal "NU METRO" (in white), and the logo cuts to black.
FX: All the animation in the logo.
Music/Sounds: While a synthesized humming sound is heard, we hear a "splash", birds chirping, two more synth tones, a laser zap, high-pitched laser zaps sounding like an alarm, and a series of "clunks".
Availability: Currently in use. Again, only seen on PAL tapes in South Africa. (Might be on Region 2 DVDs there as well), often being followed by the Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo, though the "Sorcerer Mickey" logo would be followed before 1996.
Scare Factor: Low to medium; the music could catch you off-guard, but other than that, it's not a bad logo.
