Logo descriptions by AsdfTheRevival, WizardDuck, Hoa, CLGWIKIROCKS and supersmashmelee Logo captures by AsdfTheRevival, Eric S., Logoboy95, Randomchannel134, WizardDuck, etc. Editions by AsdfTheRevival, V of Doom, Hoa, and others
1st Logo (1987-1989)
Nickname: "The Fireworks"
Logo: A firecracker (which looks a lot like a comet streak) shoots up into the sky, and then explodes into several fireworks. "Nickelodeon" in it's familiar font forms.
FX/SFX: The fireworks exploding.
Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show.
Availability: It was seen on the Nickelodeon and syndicated versions of Finders Keepers. This logo was actually a short clip from a Nickelodeon ident that played around the time of the logo.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo (1988)
Nicknames: "The Flying TV", "Nick TV", "A Boy and his Flying TV" Logo: On a lime green background, we see a boy in glasses standing next to a large, winged turtle with a TV screen on it. The boy jumps onto the turtle as it flies around in circles. It then stops in the middle of the screen to reveal the Nickelodeon text on the TV screen.
FX/SFX: The boy jumping on the turtle, turtle moving around.
Music/Sounds: The end theme.
Availability: Extinct; last seen on Super Sloppy Double Dare. This logo was actually a short clip from a Nickelodeon ident that played around the time of the logo.
Scare Factor: None.
3rd Logo (1989)
Nickname: "Nick Box"
Logo: On a cream-colored background with many objects, we see a black rectangle, in which then from the top unfolds a orange rectangle, with Nickelodeon in diffrent colors, which in it's familiar font, is on it. It makes a box shape, then the Nickelodeon text flashes white, and a butterfly flies out of the box.
FX/SFX: The flash, the forming of the box.
Cheesy Factor: The whole thing is cut- outs, stop-motion, and animation. (Considering that it was Nickelodeon's style during the time, this was based on a few bumpers.)
Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.
Availability: Only seen on 1989 episodes of Super Sloppy Double Dare.
Scare Factor: Low.
4th Logo (1995)
Nickname: "The Housefly"
Logo: On a sky background with moving clouds, an orange housefly comes from the the top of the screen and flies around in circles twice before stopping right in front of us. We see "Nickelodeon" in its familiar font on the fly.
FX/SFX: The CGI animation of the fly.
Cheesy Factor: The fly looks tacked onto the sky background (which is logical, considering this was a cheap quick-fix logo lifted from a Nick bumper of the era).
Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.
Availability: Only seen on Season 3 episodes of Legends Of The Hidden Temple.
Scare Factor: None.
5th Logo (2000-2006)
Nickname: "The Weird Object"
Logo: Against a teal background, various versions of the Nick logo bounce around the screen (usually a weird cloud thing), eventually settling in the center. Copyright info appears below.
FX/SFX: The "bouncing".
Music/Sounds: Usually the outro of the show, or the previous logo's audio may play over the logo (e.g. United Plankton Pictures and Snee-Oosh). Sometimes it's the sound of kids laughing (usually heard after the Klasky-Csupo SSF, but was also heard on shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Catscratch) or an engine revving sound combined with a xylophone.
Availability: Extinct; retired as of May 2006. Check those tapes!
Scare Factor: None.
6th Logo (2006-2008)(2006-2008/2009)
Nickname: "Bubbles and Nick"
Logo: On a white and teal background with green CGI bubbles, one bursts, revealing a CGI Nickelodeon logo. Copyright info is shown below.
Variants:
On Wayside, there was no copyright information byline and at the top, there was orange text that read "This has been a presentation of".
Some episodes of the Barnyard animated series lack copyright info.
FX/SFX: The bubble bursting.
Music/Sounds: Usually the end theme of the show that aired, but sometimes it's the kids laughing from the last logo.
Availability: Currently seen on Tak and the Power of Juju on Nickelodeon. Was seen on all Nickelodeon programming run with split-screen credits on Nickelodeon until 2008, and now only seen after the regular credits of Nicktoons from El Tigre onwards. This logo, for some reason, is retained on the split-screen credits of shows on Nicktoons Network. Also, when Nickelodeon ran The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash marathon in July 2009, this logo was revived after the split-screen credits of several SpongeBob episodes.
Scare Factor: None.
7th Logo (January 30, 2008-September 28, 2009)
Nicknames: "Nick Lightbulb III", "CGI Nick Lightbulb", "The Lightbulb Returns"
Logo: On a black background, we see the famous orange splat logo in 2D, then the background glows dark orange, and the splat transforms into an orange 3D CGI lightbulb, an obvious homage to the Nickelodeon Productions logo of 1996, which turns toward us. And as always, copyright info is shown below, or sometimes not at all.
Variants:
On the 2008 Kids' Choice Awards, as well as some shows, there's an extended version in which the lightbulb changes back to the splat logo.
The logo is bylineless on some Nick Jr. shows, excluding The Backyardigans.
FX/SFX: The splat transforming into a lightbulb, the glow in the BG.
Music/Sounds: If you've been reading these descriptions, you should know by now. It was silent on the 2008 Kids' Choice Awards, though.
Music/Sounds Variant: On split-screen airings of the Ni-Hao Kai-Lan episode "The Ant Playground", the 2005 Nick Jr. Productions jingle may play over the bylineless logo. This is the only Ni-Hao Kai-Lan episode to use this logo with Nick Jr. Productions music; other episodes used this logo with the standard laughing.
Availability: Extinct on Nickelodeon as of 9/28/2009. Split-screen showings of iCarly also have this logo intact. The bylineless version can also be seen on Nick Jr. shows (expect for The Backyardigans) and plasters over the Nick Jr. Productions logo.
Scare Factor: None.
8th Logo (September 28, 2009- )
Logo: Essentially the same as the 2009 Nickelodeon Productions logo, expect it is missing the word "productions" and copyright information.
FX/SFX: Same as the 2009 Nickelodeon Productions logo.
Music/Sounds: Same as the 2009 Nickelodeon Productions logo.
