Background: This company was founded by B-movie legend Roger Corman in 1970. However, they didn't use an on-screen logo until 1977. In recent years, Roger Corman has been reissuing parts of the pre-1984 New World library on VHS and DVD on his own New Concord Home Video label (Corman left New World in 1984). Shout Factory! is currently re-releasing and releasing films previously unreleased on DVD for pre-1984 New World films. The 1970-1983 films except Battle Beyond the Stars (coproduced with and released through Orion) were licensed to Viacom Enterprises (now CBS Television Distribution) for TV distribution. The pre-1974 titles are now owned by Paramount.

1st Logo
(1970-1977)

Nickname: "Sliding Rectangles"

Logo: Two rectangles (light blue and dark blue) slide from both sides of the screen and eventually overlap each other (ala "The Orion/WB Combo Logo) on the dark blue
New World Pictures (1970s)rectangle we see, "ROGER CORMAN PRESENTS" (in Peignot font, the same used for the first Viacom logo) and on the light blue rectangle we see "A NEW WORLD PICTURES RELEASE" in the same font, as well.

FX/SFX: The siding rectangles.

Cheesy Factor: Typical '70s animation.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Rare, might be seen on a few New World films from the era. This strangely makes an appearance on the
1979 film Starcrash on the 1986 Charter VHS release.

Scare Factor: Low, the animation may startle a few.

2nd Logo
(1977-1980)
New World Pictures (1977)

Nickname: "Constellation"

Logo: On a Orion-like starfield, the phrase NEW WORLD PICTURES PRESENTS-stacked and curved like an open eye-trails itself from the right of the screen in multiple colors (a la Filmways' second logo) onto the center.

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: The cheaply-made trailing animation.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Rare-can still be easily spotted whenever a New World film from this era is shown on TV, often with a Viacom "Wigga-Wigga" or Paramount logo at the end. Some examples include God Told Me To (1986 Charter VHS), Humanoids from the Deep, and Piranha.

Scare Factor: None to minimal, given the fact that New World's output was nothing more than B-movies.

3rd Logo
(1980-1984)
New World Pictures (1980)New World Pictures (1980-A)New World Pictures (1980-B)

Nickname: "Blue Sun"

Logo: On a plain black background, an Aztec hieroglyph-like sun (given a metallic blue coloration) is seen centered in the middle of the screen. As light streaks encirclrcle the logo, the company name is seen in a plain font. This is faded out as the light streaks once again pass all over the logo after which the sequence fades out.

Variant: A still version exists without animation on Battle Beyond the Stars with "NEW WORLD PICTURES PRESENTS" under it, then it fades to "A ROGER CORMAN PRODUCTION".

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: The light streaks circling around the logo and the fade-out on the studio name.

Music/Sounds: A whoosh followed by Star-wars like sounds, none, or the opening theme to the movie.

Avaliability: Rare-should be retained whenever New World films from this period air on television (again with Viacom or Paramount logos at the end). Seen on
Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World.

Scare Factor: Low-rather effective piece of early CGI from Roger Corman of all people. The logo's shape might rattle those who've never seen it before.

4th Logo
(1984-1989)
New World Entertainment - CLG WikiNew World Entertainment - CLG Wiki

Nickname: "The Sphere"

Logo: On a black background, several three-dimensional orange "slices" merge together to form a red-orange globe shape as the camera pulls back; as this occurs, a quick flash of light happens as each section passes. Once the abstract globe forms. The company name "NEW WORLD PICTURES" (
or "NEW WORLD INTERNATIONAL" for international distribution) fades in below it.

FX/SFX: The 3D sections merging into the globe.

Music/Sounds: Sometimes silent, sometimes the opening theme of the movie, and sometimes have a new-age, synth and string music.

Availability: Common on Anchor Bay Entertainment DVD reissues of New World movies. Original VHS releases of New World's films were always plastered with the New World Video logo, so there is no chance of finding it there, although the logo can be found on the Thorn EMI Video print of The Philadelphia Experiment. This is often plastered by the Trans Atlantic Entertainment or Lakeshore International logo on TV prints 1985-1988 films currently distributed by Lakeshore and Warner Bros. Television.

Scare Factor: None. This was among one of the truly cool 1980s logos.
