Background: NBC launched its very first video label in 1981 in unison with Warner Home Video at the time. On these titles, the Warner Home Video "Big Blue (\\`)" (later the "Cheesy Shield") would be shown followed by this logo.

(1981-Early 1986)
NBC Home Video

Nickname: "Flipping Feathers"

Logo: On a space background, we see several multicolored light streaks (representing peacock feathers) flipping and turning about as the picture zooms out. The tips of these "feathers" have little TV tubes on them. Each of the light streaks continues to rotate, until they take the shape and color of the 11-feathered
peacock logo that was being used at the time. The background fades to black and the picture fades over to an extreme close-up of the actual NBC peacock logo with a geometric "N" behind it. It zooms out to a further distance and flashes. Once this happens, the words "NBC" and "HOME" in blue letters slide out from the right and left of the logo. The text "VIDEO" zooms out with a rainbow-colored shadow trail and flashes as it plasters itself underneath the logo.

FX: Too many to mention, but the flipping feathers becoming the NBC logo are the main effects.

Cheesy Factor: Well, this logo sort of has a good and bad side. The flipping feathers were a good idea, but what do the TV tubes on the tips of the feathers have to do with anything? The sudden zoom-out of the actual NBC logo is rough and the flashing effects look a little dated.

Music/Sounds: The music used for this logo is an abridged version of NBC's "Our Pride Is Showing" campaign during its 1981-82 season, which consisted of a dramatic orchestra and the NBC chimes heard within it.

Availability: This was primarily a Warner Home Video company at the time. The best way to find this is by looking for a Warner Home Video clamshell case that has the old NBC logo with "NBC Enterprises, Inc." on it.

Scare Factor: Low to medium; the dramatic music and flashing rainbow effects may not sit well with most people.
