Background: MGM Kids was a kids and family division of MGM Home Entertainment. It was founded in 1995 as MGM/UA Family Entertainment. The company closed down in 2008 and was folded into MGM Home Entertainment. This company for best known for releasing the DVD version of The Adventures of the American Rabbit (which is originally released by Clubhouse Pictures in 1986).

MGM/UA Family Entertainment

(1995-1998)

Nickname: "Leo's Family"

Logo: The standard MGM logo is, as usual, posed against a blue shaded BG, butMGM/UA Family Entertainment (1995) without "TRADE MARK", and lion cubs replace the drama mask. We see Leo inside a filmstrip circle with four filmstrips. The text "MGM/UA FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT", with two lines above and below the name, is at the bottom of the cubs. Leo roars once.

Trivia: The lion depicted here is Leo, from the 1957 MGM logo.

FX: Leo roaring.

Music/Sounds: Only the MGM lion roaring, much like the movie logo.

Availability: Very common, can be found on the 1990s VHS release of The Pebble and the Penguin. Also survives on some interactive games based on some cartoon movies. Seen on a 1998 print of The Princess Bride.

Scare Factor: Low, unless you're afraid of the roar.

FX: The lion roaring.

Music/Sounds: None.

MGM Kids

(2003-2008)

Nicknames: "Young Leo", "Little Leo", "The MGM Kids Cub", "Leo Jr."

Logo: On a blue background we see the white words "MGM KIDS" on a red MGM Kids (2004)shadow effect zooming out to the bottom of the screen. We see a cub replacing Leo, inside a golden filmstrip circle, starts growling and roaring and pushes the name. "MGM KIDS" starts wiggling twice.

Trivia: Unlike the movie logo, the lion depicted here is Leo Jr.

FX: The animation.

Music/Sounds: We hear Leo Jr. roaring.

Availability: Not used very often anymore, since MGM Kids was absorbed into MGM Home Entertainment, but still somewhat easy to find. This logo can be seen at the end of some trailers. Like the previous logos, this logo appears on some DVD releases of All Dogs Go to Heaven and All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. Some Hello Kitty DVD releases show the same logo also. It was also seen on the DVD release of the 1986 Clubhouse Pictures film The Adventures of the American Rabbit.

Scare Factor: Low, unless you're afraid of the roar.
