San Antonio, Texas

1st (known) Logo
(1978-1984)(1978-1985)
KLRN (Early 80's)KLRN/KLRU (Early 80's)
Nickname: "The Spinning Star"

Logo: On a black background, we see a bluish four-pointed star spinning, flat down, then rising up as a "water drop" drops onto the star and red and blue sparkles fly from it (which grows an extra point and an Alamo-like arch above it) and draw in "KLRN 9" in Aero Extended font, and "SAN ANTONIO" fades in below. The star turns white, and appears to be a bit darker at the end.

Variant: When KLRU in the Texas capital of Austin was a satellite of KLRN, there was a variant in this logo. The star animation continued as normal, but sparkles would shoot out both "KLRN" and "KLRU" (in yellow-orange), and "NINE - SAN ANTONIO" would be under "KLRN" while "EIGHTEEN - AUSTIN" (both in white) would be under "KLRU". The star remains blue here.

FX/Cheesy Factor: The star, sparkles, and forming text; pretty cheesy, but not too bad for the time.

Music/Sounds: A catchy Moog synth disco tune in the normal logo, and a catchy flute and piano tune in the variant. The variant also uses an announcer saying "This is public television, KLRN San Antonio and KLRU Austin.".

Availability: Extinct; this was used as a station ID back in the early 1980s.

Scare Factor: None; many people find this logo to be a fave, compared to the next one below...

2nd Logo
(1984-1994)(1985-1994)
KLRN (Mid 80's-Early 90's)
Nickname: "The Shine", "White Marble"

Logo: On a white marble background, we see "KLRN", in 3D form, but in a similar font from the previous logo, over a chyroned "San Antonio". "KLRN" then shines.

FX/Cheesy Factor: Just the shine, which is too simple...

Music/Sounds: Silent.

Availability: Don't know where to find it.

Scare Factor: None; it's only boring.
