1st Logo
(1954-1965?)
KETC (1954-1965?)
Logo: We see an image of a filmreel turning over a background of stylized apartment buildings. A circle appears, which has holes in a diamond pattern (representing a filmreel, obviously) with "KETC" in each hole arranged like this:

E
K---T
C

"CHANNEL 9 ST. LOUIS" is shown below.

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: The live-action filmreel, the fading in of the animated filmreel.

Music/Sounds: Just an announcer saying "Produced by KETC.".

Availability: Extinct on TV, but parts of it were seen on
the station's 50th anniversary special, Because of You: 50 Years of Channel 9.

Scare Factor: Minimal.

2nd Logo
(1965?-1972)
KETC - CLG Wiki
Nickname: "Color Wheel 9"

Logo: On a black background, we see a black 9 inside a color wheel. Inside the 9 are a white dot, and a white half-face with a black dot. To the right are the words "A KETC FILM PRESENTATION".

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: Just a still logo.

Music/Sounds: May have the closing theme of a particular show, but otherwise, it's silent.

Availability: May be on old tapes, or on the station's 50th anniversary special, Because of You: 50 Years of Channel 9.

Scare Factor: Low.

3rd Logo
(1972-1976)
Logo: Against either a black or a dark blue background, we see the same logo as the previous, but it's in a white circle. There's some text that reads "KETC-TV ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI CHANNEL NINE", with two dots between "Channel" and "KETC" for one, and "Nine" and "Missouri" for the other.

FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: Again, a still logo.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show, and an announcer saying "This program was produced by KETC Television, St. Louis, Missouri."

Availability: Can be seen on old Letter People and Self Incorporated tapes.

Scare Factor: Low.

4th Logo
(1976-1984)

KETC - CLG Wiki

Nickname: "Flashy & Sparkly KETC", "Daytime & Nighttime KETC"

Logo: Against a dark blue background, we see the letters "KETC" inside a segmented box, being formed from top to bottom, and flickering in different colors while it's sliding from the bottom right to the center of the screen, similar to the PMT logo. After some time, the logo flashes rainbow colors, and the background turns yellow, and the letters turn blue, following a bright flash on the screen. The call letters are sandwiched between "FROM" and "ST. LOUIS" ("FROM" colored cerulean blue, "ST. LOUIS" colored baby blue). Three stars then sparkle on the logo, and as it fades out, a light wipes from left to right on the logo.

FX/Cheesy Factor: Early CGI light effects, plus the background changing.

Music/Sounds: A weird, but beautiful sounding Moog synthesizer jingle (sounding a little similar to the Select Video jingle), with a "warbly" synth sounder (kinda like WGBH's) and three bells at the end (BTW, this has to be the calmest synth music ever heard for a PBS station logo).

Availability: It should be on old tapes of Letter People and Self Incorporated from that era (moreso with the latter). It also made an appearance on the station's 50th anniversary special. If PBS puts out a DVD of either one of these shows, you might be lucky to find this logo.

Scare Factor: Medium to high; the animation is not that impressive, but the music does sound pleasant.

5th Logo
(1978- )
KETC (1978- )
Nickname: "Streaky 9"

Logo: On a black background, the familiar red 9 logo slides from left to right, leaving a trail, starting off black with a red outline, but then filling in red when it almost comes to a stop. It zooms out, and new text appears, such as "St. Louis", "Weekdays", etc., while three stars sparkle on the screen.

FX/Cheesy Factor: Early CGI, again.

Music/Sounds: Same calm synth music as logo 4.

Availability: Seen only as a local bumper. It, like logos 1, 2, and 4, also appeared on the anniversary special.

Scare Factor: Same as logo 4.
