Background: Iguana Entertainment was founded in 1991 to develop games from Acclaim and Sunsoft. It is known for developing games like, NBA Jam, NFL Quarterback Club series, Turok series, Aero the Acro-Bat series, and South Park games. In 1995, Iguana was purchased by Acclaim. It's first game was Super High Impact for Sega Genesis.

1st Logo
(1991-1992)

Nickname: "The Shining Text", "The Rainbow Text"

Logo: On a white background, we see the word "IGUANA" In a sci-fi like font in gray with "ENTERTAINMENT" under it. Suddenly, the "IGUANA" text shines then, the rainbow gradient color slide in the "IGUANA" text.

FX/SFX: The text shining, the rainbow colors sliding in.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availibility: Seen on Super High Impact for Sega Genesis.

Nickname: "The Iguana Debuts"

Logo: On a white background, we see an Iguana with sunglasses climbing on the rainbow gradient colored "IGUANA" text with "ENTERTAINMENT" under it from the previous logo.

Variants: There are different variations of the logo.
  • On Aero The Acro-Bat 2 and the Genesis version of Aero The Acro-Bat, there are paint smudges on the background.
  • On NBA Jam and NBA Jam Tournament Edition, A humanoid Iguana is sitting on the "IGUANA" text. with his tail hanging between "N" and "A", his left foot on "A", and his right foot on "N". Plus, he's wearing a basketball jersey and he is spinning a basketball. Also, he is grinning.
  • On the SNES version of NBA Jam, the logo is on the basketball floor background. It can also be seen on the beta version of NBA Jam Tournament Edition for SNES.
  • On the Game Gear version of NBA Jam, the logo is on a black background. Plus, the basketball lands on Iguana's finger. Also, the logo flashes into white.
  • On the SNES version of NBA Jam Tournament Edition, the logo is on the basketball court background with light above the logo. Plus, the Iguana is wearing a different basketball jersey with shoes on his feet, spinning a basketball and he is laying on the "IGUANA" text with his tail hanging between "U" and "A".
  • On the Genesis version of Pirates of Dark Water, An Iguana is wearing a Pirate Hat, an eye patch instead of sunglasses, has a sword on his left hand and hook on the text.
  • On Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, An Iguana is wearing a pink ninja bandana and he's holding a shuriken. Also, there are paint smudges on the background like in the Aero the Acro-Bat games.
  • On the SNES version of Side Pocket, an Iguana is holding a pool stick, with the pool stick sharpener on the "G". Also, he is grinning like in the NBA Jam variant and there are paint smudges on the background like on Aero the Acro-Bat games.
  • On the NFL Quarterback Club, we see the the artwork version of CGI Iguana facing right climbing on the CGI "IGUANA" text with gooey stuff under the "IGUANA" text. On the Genesis version, the "IGUANA" text is in 2D like in Aero the Acro-Bat games. Plus, the gooey stuff is absent.

FX/SFX: None, but the basketball spinning for the NBA Jam variants.

Music/Sounds: None.

Music/Sound Variants:
  • On Aero the Acro-Bat, Aero the Acro-Bat 2, and the SNES version of Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, the opening theme of the game is heard.
  • On the SNES version of Side Pocket, we hear a fast 6-note jingle. Then we hear a pool stick hit sound as the logo fades out.

Logo: We see an Iguana with sunglasses peeking it's head out looking to the left. Then we zoom out to see the rainbow gradient colored "IGUANA" text with "ENTERTAINMENT" under it done in CGI while he looks to the right. When he looks back to the left, the word "ENTERTAINMENT" shines as it stops into it's normal position.

Variants: Like the last logo, there are different variations of the logo.
  • There is a still artwork version of the logo. Plus, on the Genesis versions, the background is white. On the SNES versions, the background is black.
  • On 32X versions of NFL Quarterback Club and NBA Jam Tournament Edition, the still logo is on the Iguana's skin background.
  • On Playstation, Saturn, and PC versions of Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball, the logo is stretched into letterbox view. Plus, when the word, "ENTERTAINMENT" shines, it fades into the opening movie of the game.
  • On Playstation and Saturn versions of NBA Jam Tournament Edition, as well as the PC versions of College Slam, Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball, and NFL Quarterback Club 96 (If the game is not installed), the still logo is on a light blue-green sky background with a close-up of Iguana's eye under the logo.
  • On NFL Quarterback Club 97, the "IGUANA" text takes place on a football stadium with the football on the "IGUANA" text. We see an Iguana climbing into the stadium with his hands stomping on the ground causing the letters to flip as we pan through. Then the letters go back into it's position. Then an Iguana throws the football away. Then he climbs on the text then he looks up, then the word, "ENTERTAINMENT" drops down causing the letters except "G" and "N" to jump, then Iguana looks to the left.
  • On Batman Forever: The Arcade Game, it's on the same background from the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment logo.
  • On WWF Warzone, the logo glows yellow fading into the logo and it's on the steel plate like object during the opening FMV movie. On the Nintendo 64 version, the logo doesn't glow yellow.
  • On Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, the logo is on the rainforest. Plus, someone shoots the arrows into the tree as the Iguana dodges them. Then he gulps and looks around. Then he runs away, as more arrows appear.
  • On Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, an Iguana with the logo's text are on the rainforest, Turok shoots arrows at the Iguana, but he ducks. Then he gets up and stands on the logo holding guns, then he starts shooting Turok couple of times. Then he cackles.
  • On South Park, the logo is on the snow ground. Then Kenny comes in and looks at the logo. Then he tells Cartman, Kyle, and Stan to come over and look at it. Then an Iguana climbs in and bites Kenny's head off while the others panic and ran away. Then Stan says "Oh my god, they killed Kenny!" Then the rats come in and eat Kenny's blood as the Iguana grins. Note: it doesn't appear on the Playstation version because Appaloosa developed the Playstation version of the game.
  • On NFL Quarterback Club 99, there is no real Iguana. Plus, the football player in the Packers Uniform (Brett Farve) comes in running though and tackles into a camera.
  • On the Nintendo 64 version of Forsaken, the letters "IGUANA" flyin and bounce into view. Then the Iguana, without glasses, appears climbing onto the text. Then the words, "ENTERTAINMENT UK" appear under the "IGUANA" text.
  • On Iggy's Reckin Balls, the word, "IGUANA" appear letter by letter flying and spinning onto the screen causing the stars to appear, then Iggy appears swinging through then he flies up. Then the word "ENTERTAINMENT" slides, in. Then Iggy falls into the text. Then he looks around, then he roars like Leo the Lion from the MGM logo. Then Narlie the Jack-O-Lantern comes swinging in laughing, and crashes through the logo.
  • On All-Star Baseball 2000, the logo without a real Iguana is superimposed on the opening intro of the game.

FX/SFX: Depending on game.

Music/Sounds: A synth music with the sounds of Iguana growling and the shining ending with three note synth choir.

Music/Sound Variants:

  • The opening theme of the game or silent for the still variants.
  • A beat-box like tune on the Iggy's Reckin Balls variant.
  • Silent for the Turok and NFL Quarterback Club 99 variants.
  • In NFL Quarterback Club 97, it's the synth music from the standard logo. While that plays, we hear the Iguana walking steps, the sound of throwing ball and the growling.
  • Sometimes, the game's background music is used for other variants.

Availibility: The regular animated variants appear on Iguana games like College Slam and Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball for Playstation, Saturn, and PC. The NFL QB Club 97 variant was only seen on NFL Quarterback Club 97 for Playstation, Saturn, and PC. The still variants appear on Iguana games for SNES, Genesis, 32x, Playstation, Saturn and PC. The WWF Warzone variant was only on WWF Warzone for Playstation and Nintendo 64. The Batman variant appears on Batman Forever: The Arcade Game for Playstation, Saturn, and PC. The other variants appear on Iguana games for Nintendo 64 through the era.

  • Low for the animated variants, unless if the Iguana scares you.
  • None for the still variants, unless if the Iguana scares you.
  • Low to medium for N64 variants.
  • Medium to High for the Turok 2 variant.

Acclaim Studios

Background: In 1999 Iguana Entertainment was taken over by Acclaim and turned into Acclaim Studios Austin, while its subsidiaries were renamed A.S. Salt Lake City (Iguana West, formerly Sculptured Software) and A.S. Teesside (Iguana UK, formerly Optimus Software). Other studios were also renamed - A.S. London (Probe Entertainment, formerly Probe Software), A.S. Cheltenham, and in 2002, A.S. Manchester (Software Creations). In 2002, A.S. Teesside closed down. In 2003 A.S. Salt Lake City closed down. In 2004, when Acclaim when bankrupt, all the other studios were closed down and liquidated.

Nickname: "Acclaim Studios Iguana"

Logo: There is a common logo used for Acclaim Studios - the usual design with Acclaim word in white and the red bar below with STUDIOS written on it. The Iguana, as from latest Iguana Entertainment logo, hangs over the logo. Right to the Acclaim word, the hometown name is seen in vertical font - Austin,
London, Salt Lake City or Teesside.

FX/SFX: Generally none.

Variant:
  • A special version was used in Turok 3 - tired Iguana climbs the Acclaim Studios logo, with the word AUSTIN seen below the logo. The bright thunder flash occurs, the logo ages with the Iguana becoming a skeleton. The skeleton parts fall down, and the logo flashes to clear out.
  • There was an Austin version with ACCLAIM.NET below.
  • Salt Lake City was once spotted below the logo which is seen on the Playstation version of Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000.
  • On RC Revenge and RC Revenge Pro, Cheltenham is shown below the logo.
Music/Sounds: None for regular versions, and ominous soundtrack for Turok 3 version.

Availibility:
Seen on post-1999 Iguana games. Teesside logo was used in Shadowman. Salt Lake logo can be seen in Jeremy McGrath Supercross and ECW series. Austin logo can be found in WWF Attitude and other games. Cheltenham logo can be seen on RC Revenge, RC Revenge Pro, and other Cheltenham games.

Scare Factor: None for still version. HIGH for Turok 3 version!
