Logo: We see the animation of a TV screen turning on, and the screen fills with static. A shadowed outline of the HBO logo appears, along with "ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING". The static fades into a black background, though the logo remains, filled with static.

Trivia: This logo was based on the opening credits from Dream On, which began with a TV set turning on to display nothing but static.

Closing Variants
:
  • The logo is basically played in reverse. Has the byline "A Time Warner Entertainment Company" below.
  • The screen says "THIS HAS BEEN A PRESENTATION OF HOME BOX OFFICE". Again, played in reverse.

Variants:
  • Starting in 2005, the logo said "HBO ENTERTAINMENT".
  • There is a version that appears on HBO Family, exactly the same as normal, but with the addition of a rainbow-colored "Family" below the HBO logo.

FX/SFX: The TV turning on, the fade effects.

Music/Sounds: A static sound, followed by a choir.

Availability: Common; appears on programs such as Sex and the City, The Sopranos, and Six Feet Under, and any HBO original special. It also appeared on the (original) run of Tales From The Crypt, but the logo is usually cut and replaced with the combination of Genesis/20th Television on reruns. The HBO Family version appeared on shows such as A Little Curious and Crashbox.

Scare Factor: Low to medium; may surprise you the first time you see it, but it's otherwise harmless.
