1st Logo
(1961-1969)(1961-1964?)
Logo: On a white background, we see three black triangles and one light gray triangle (supposed to represent the mountains in the North of Scotland) cover the bottom of the screen. The triangles then
form into a rounded rectangle of the flag of Scotland with the gray triangle at the bottom. The flag zooms out and "GRAMPIAN" zooms out below the flag.
FX: The triangles moving, and the zooming...
Cheesy Factor: ... which is choppy and undetailed. The triangles are obviously pieces of paper being shot frame by frame.
MusicMusic/Sounds: A synthesized version of "Scotland the Brave"
Availability: Extinct.
Scare Factor: Medium to high; the primitive animation and music can scare a few people.
2nd Logo
(1964-1969)
Logo: Against a black BG, we see the same Scottish flag from before, but in a white outline and the bottom segment made of small vertical lines, zoom in, along with the word "GRAMPIAN" letter-by-letter, in a different font.
FX: The zooming...
Cheesy Factor: ...which is still choppy.
Music/Sounds: A music box rendition of "Scotland the Brave".
Availability: Extinct.
Scare Factor: Medium to high due to the dark background and music.
2nd Logo
(1969-1980)
Logo: On a black background, we see a red triangle emerge from the left side of the screen, a yellow triangle emerge from the top side of the screen, a blue triangle emerge from the right side of the screen, and a white triangle emerge from the bottom of the screen. These triangles move toward the
center of the screen, mixing colors in the process. The triangles then "shrink" into a white diamond. The background turns green and the diamond animates into a rounded rectangle flag of Scotland. The flag zooms out and "GRAMPIAN" appears below the flag by a "flipping" effect. "COLOUR" appears in the same way below "GRAMPIAN".
FX: The triangles moving, the animation of the flag, the "flipping"
Cheesy Factor: The "flipping" is rough, and the rest is simple, but effective animation.
MusicMusic/Sounds: A harp flourish, followed by a vibraphone rendition of "Scotland the Brave".
Availability: Extinct.
Scare Factor: Low; the darkness can scare some, but the music is much tamer.
4th Logo
(1980-1989)
Logo: On a black background, we see 8 light blue spheres and 12 multicolored diamonds. The spheres and diamonds move around, forming into a cube with red, green, and blue sides. Each side has a black "X" on it. As the cube spins
around, we zoom into the blue side, which has "GRAMPIAN TELEVISION" and four blue triangles with white borders formed into the flag of Scotland. The blue side "flaps" open, and green and red lines bisect each other showing where the triangles form.
FX: Excellent CGI for its time, on par with the CGI Central logo.
MusicMusic/Sounds: A synthesized remix of the usual tune.
Availability: Extinct.
Scare Factor: None; this has great CGI.
3rd Logo
(1989-1991)

Nickname: "ITV Generic"
See ITV for description.
