Logo descriptions by Michael Bass
Logo captures by Mr. Logo Lord and V of Doom

Background: Also known as Epic Entertainment, this was the indie/B-movie arm of Triumph Releasing Corporation, a unit of Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. (now Sony Pictures Entertainment). Epic Productions was established in 1988 after CPE resurrected Triumph that same year, and controlled by Moshe Diamant and Eduard Sarlui (the same people who started Trans World Entertainment).
However, Epic was taken over by Orion Pictures in 1995 and by MGM in 1998 with the acquisition of the parent company, because Epic/Triumph owned the Hemdale library. Today, all its library is currently held by MGM after their purchase of Hemdale. Ironically, MGM's also owned by Sony Corporation of America and its partners.

1st Logo
(1989-1990)

Epic Productions "Neon Purple Lines" (1988)Epic Productions "Neon Purple Lines" (1989)

Nickname: "Neon Purple Lines"

Logo: On a black or starry background, we see a thick purple streak with three thinner purple lines curve from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen. The streak then wipes in across the middle and this logo with shiny text zooms out: "EPIC PRODUCTIONS". On the sides of the logo are parts of the purple streak.

FX/SFX: The thick purple streak forming the logo.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appears on Ski Patrol and the DVD version of Men At Work.

Scare Factor: Low.

2nd Logo
(1990-1993?)

Nickname: "The Epic Barbarian"

Logo: We pan to the top of a gold rock pedestal, and see that on top of it is a man with shoulder-length hair wearing a black fighting suit with a black cape. The man is
Epic Productions (1989)holding a sword in his right hand and a black shield in his left hand, and he raises his sword as the camera zooms out to reveal that the pedestal he is standing on is the letter "I" in the large gold rock word "EPIC". Lightning strikes the sword as the small text "PRODUCTIONS" fades in below.

FX/SFX: The logo zooming out, the lightning at the end.

Music/Sounds: A epic-sounding synth theme with occasional drumbeats, some sword-drawing noises, and also thunder at the end.

Availability: Appeared on Men At Work VHS. This may have also appeared on other movies produced by Epic in this time period.

Scare Factor: Low, unless you're afraid of lightning.
