Early UPN IDs
Compilation and photos by WizardDuck
Video by SanAntonioNews78
Background: UPN was Viacom and Chris-Craft's attempt at a major network. It was formed from the independent stations owned by both of them (Viacom's Paramount Stations Group was originally known as TVX Broadcast Group, whose stations were mostly Fox stations, but in the Paramount years, various other stations became part of the group, such as Detroit's WKBD and Philadelphia's WGBS, later WPSG (the former Philly Paramount station, WTXF, was later sold to Fox), and Chris-Craft's United Television owned several independent stations, such as WWOR in New York, KCOP in Los Angeles, KBHK in San Francisco among others). UPN was later 100% owned by Viacom, KBHK became part of Viacom after Chris-Craft exited television (they sold their stations to News Corporation; Viacom traded Washington's WDCA and Houston's KTXH for KBHK, which is now KBCW). UPN ceased operations in 2006 along with The WB to make room for The CW.
(1995-1996)

Logo: On a black/silver background, we see a silver sphere with a "U", as a "P" slides downward in the background. The sphere shrinks into a gold pyramid with a "P" with an "N" sliding down in the BG. The pyramid morphs into a silver cube with an "N". It then morphs into the UPN logo. It moves to the left side of the screen, as the left becomes black, the center becomes satin blue, and the right becomes molten-looking silver. Station related information (channel number, callsign and city) has appeared by this point.
FX: All of the animation.
Music/Sounds: A synthesized jingle ending in three guitar notes (intending to resemble "UPN").
Availability: Check your tapes, as these IDs (and the network) are long gone.
Scare Factor: None to low; the transforming shapes may get to some.
