Background Dreamworks Animation
is an independent American animation studio which primarily produce a series of critically and commercially successful computer animated films, including Shrek, Shark Tale, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar 2 and Monsters vs. Aliens. It was formed by the merger of the feature animation division of DreamWorks SKG and Pacific Data Images (PDI). Originally formed under the banner of DreamWorks SKG, it was spun-off into a separate public company in 2004. They are currently distributed only through Paramount Pictures (in turn owned by Viacom) who acquired the rest of DreamWorks SKG in February 2006. DreamWorks Animation maintains two studios: the original DreamWorks feature animation studio in Glendale, California and the PDI studio in Redwood City, California.

Nickname: "The Rainbow Balloon Kid"

Logo: We see the same kid that was fishing holding balloons, Expect it's in the daytime. The balloons lift the kid up to his usual spot on the moon. The kid releases the balloons and when they lift up high enough, they pop into the multi-colored/
rainbow-like letters spelling "DREAMWORKS", then finally we see on a blue line "ANIMATION" or "ANIMATION SKG".

FX/SFX: The kid rising and
Rainbow Balloons forming the logo. Excellent CGI for the Logo.

Music/Sounds: A majestic/peaceful orchestarted piece based off Fiona's theme from Shrek.

Variants:
  • Starting in 2007, the kid and the moon appear above the text.
  • Starting in mid-2008, there are more clouds (so much they surround the kid on the moon!) and when the kid releases the balloons, the camera doesn't pan up, it stays on the kid on the moon. The text appears below.

Some films have a variant version of the logo:
  • Bee Movie: The logo plays normally until the kid nearly reaches the moon. Barry B. Benson flies up to him, and the kid tries to swat it, hovering past the moon. Benson stings him. The kid lands painfully on the tip of the moon, then falls head first onto the bottom half of the moon, and falls off screaming. Benson takes the kid's place on the moon, and the Dreamworks logo fades in underneath. This variant is very funny to watch.
  • Kung Fu Panda: A weasel in Chinese garb runs across water and jumps off a temple and two clouds to the moon, where he sits down and fishes. The logo then zooms out as "DREAMWORKS ANIMATION SKG" (in yellow) scrolls up from the bottom and knocks into the moon, turning it yellow as well. The variant is drawn in the same style as Po's dream sequence (in 2D), which follows it.
  • Madagascar Escape 2 Africa: The logo plays normally apart from the fact that it's more zoomed in. After the kid lands on the moon, the penguins appear from behind the kid. One of them karate chops the kid in the back, knocking the kid unconscious, and in turn, knocking him off the moon, the music in turn stopping. The penguins then pick up the fishing rod, and proceed to catch a fish with it as the Dreamworks logo fades in underneath, and the music resumes. This variant is very funny to watch.
  • Monsters vs. Aliens: The logo is in black-and-white and the boy gets abducted by aliens in an UFO.

Availability: Fairly common; can be seen on Shark Tale, Shrek the Third, and Over the Hedge. First seen on Shrek 2.

Scare Factor: None; even though it's not widely known, it's pretty much is or will be a favorite amongst logo fans across the board.
