1st Logo
(October 1998)
Nickname: "The Purple Cat Scientist"
Logo: Inside a red-orange circle on a black background, we see a purple creature with two tails looking like DNA and wearing a white lab coat, somewhat resembling a cat, with his back turned to
us. In a circle around the circle containing the creature, we see the pink text "DNA PRODUCTIONS INC" in an odd, hard-to-describe font. He then turns his head to look at us, and jumps to face us while holding his arms out. The text shines, and we cut to the 1997 Nicktoons logo.
FX: The cat turning around and jumping, the text shining.
Music/Sounds: A weird noise resembling high-pitched laughter, then a rising cartoony sound....ugh, it's very hard to describe.
Availability: Found on the Jimmy Neutron pilot episode from 1998, "Runaway Rocketboy", on the Confusion Fusion DVD.
Scare Factor: Low. The weird noises might catch you off gaurd, but otherwise harmless.
2nd Logo
(2002- )
Nicknames: "Hi, I'm Paul!", "DNA Monkey"
Logo: On a tropical background complete with a beach, and a sunset, we see the black, lowercase text "dna productions' near the top of the screen, and two double helix coconut trees twisting behind a bush, that look like DNA. A three eyed monkey jumps up from behind
the trees and turns around to wave at us and says, "Hi, I'm Paul!"
Variants: There are a lot of them. One where the monkey says "Uhhh, what do you want me to say now?", another where the logo is backwards, and another shows two identical Pauls saying the line. On the regular credits of the Jimmy Neutron episodes "Men At Work" and "Stranded" feature no monkey and an offscreen voice says "Paul?", and the episode "Best in Show" features him wearing a mustache and speaking Spanish. Almost every episode in season 3 had one of these variants. Each and every variant is available for viewing at the company's website, www.dnahelix.com.
FX: The spinning trees, and Paul jumping up and waving to us. Gorgeous CGI animation!
Music/Sounds: A very happy, tropical xylophone sounder. Was the sound of a tool in the MS Paint-esque program, KidPix and is from the Sound Ideas Series 6000 sound effects library. Paul's voice is an innocent, high pitched man's voice.
Availability: Seen on Jimmy Neutron episodes on Nickelodeon and/or Nicktoons Network. Also, it's available on all Jimmy Timmy Power Hour animated specials.
Scare Factor: Minimal. The fact Paul has three eyes could freak some, but fan-freaking-tastic CGI along with the cute monkey makes this a memorable logo!
