(Early-Mid 1980's)
Nickname: "Dark Europe", "Westcon Rip-Off"
Logo: Against a black background, we slowly move to a dark blue map of Europe with a white outline, over a cruddy-looking globe, from a bottom-right angled position. When we stop, "Converge Video Presents" (with a segmented circle between "Converge" and "Video") fades in, in a rather grungy font, and the logo the text starts flipping around several times. While it animates, we slowly move away from the European map and towards Asia. After that, the text and logo fade out.
FX/SFX: The globe moving, the text wiping.
Cheesy Factor: And I thought American, Canadian, British, and Australian home video logos were awful sometimes! This Dutch logo is just plain cheap and AWFUL, with an eerily dark setting, the grungy-looking text, and the fact that they stole this from the
Westcon Home Video logo! The music is rather awful, too.
Music/Sounds: A creepy synthesized xylophone/piano tune, then several "clicks" as the logo wipes, which sounds like an early Sega Genesis game.
Availability: Not in the United States or Canada. Check a PAL tape from Holland for this logo. (I know "moskameijer" of YouTube said he had a Dutch tape of [the original]
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with this logo, so, check that, at least).
Scare Factor: High to nightmare, with all the cheap effects, a dark setting, and the music.
