Written and Images by Shadeed A. Kelly

Background: Chuck Barris Productions was an American television production company that was started in 1965 by Chuck Barris to produce TV game shows. In 1986, Chuck Barris renmed Chuck Barris Productions to Barris Industries. In 1987, The Guber-Peters company merged with Barris Industries to form Guber-Peters-Barris Productions, but was renamed to "Guber-Peters Entertainment Comany" after Frank Lowry, an Austrialian TV and shopping mall magnate bought out Barris. In 1989, after his 80s incarnations ended, Barris sold Chuck Barris Productions to Columbia Pictures Entertainment under the parent of Sony Corporation of Japan. Currently, all of his game shows are held by Sony Pictures Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

Chuck Barris Productions

1st Logo
(1965-1973?)
Chuck Barris-Game Game: 1969
Logo: Chuck Barris never used a logo in the beginning. In the early years, he used an on-screen disclaimer saying:

[Title of the game show]
has been produced by
CHUCK BARRIS GAMES
SHOWS, INC.

Featuring a copyright stamp below.

FX: Just scrolling in the credits.

Cheesy Factor: Spelling grammar: It should say either "CHUCK BARRIS GAME SHOWS, INC." or "CHUCK BARRIS GAMES, INC." not "CHUCK BARRIS GAMES SHOWS, INC."

Music/Sounds: The end title of the game show playing.

Availability: Extinct. Was last seen on The Game Game, and the 60s versions of The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game.

Scare Factor: None.

2nd Logo
(1973?-1980)

Logo: Another on-screen disclaimer saying:
Chuck Barris-Gong Show-1977
A
CHUCK BARRIS
PRODUCTION

Variant: On some episodes of The Gong Show would read:

A
CHUCK BARRIS
CHRIS BEARDE
PRODUCTION

All featuring the copyright stamp of the show below.

FX: None, just the text scrolling up.

Music/Sounds: Just the end title theme from any show.

Availability: Unknown for right now. Surprising GSN keeps hold of the Barris library under Sony Pictures' ownership. Was seen on The Gong Show, the The Newlywed Game and The Dating Game, among other key shows. This text was also shown on Camouflage and 3's a Crowd.

Scare Factor: None.

3rd Logo
(1978-1986?)
Barris-Dating GameBarris-Newlywed Game-1979

Nickname: "CBP"

Logo: We now have the letters "cbp" in an outlined ellipse shape with the tips of the letters "b" and "p" touching the edges of the ellipse. Underneath the logo has the text "A CHUCK BARRIS PRODUCTION" with a copyright stamp below.

Trivia: This logo looks somewhat similar to the Corporation for Public Brodcasting logo.

FX: None, just the scrolling of the logo. Other times, it's superimposed or the logo fades in.

Music/Sounds: Again, just the end title theme playing from any show.

Availability: Near extinction. Was last seen on the 70s version of The Newlywed Game on GSN. Also seen on The New Newlywed Game, Treasure Hunt, The All New Dating Game, and the 70s version of The Dating Game, among other shows that had this logo whenever GSN decides to air any one of these series.

Scare Factor: None, it's harmless.

Barris Industries

(1986?-1989)

Nickname: "BARRIS"
Barris Industries: 1988
Logo: On a gray marble background, there is 1/3 of the background in black that is cut off. In the middle has the word "BARRIS" in a red Elephant font with a shadow effect. Below has a white copyright stamp with a shadow effect.

FX: None, it's a still logo.

Music/Sounds: The end title theme from any show. On the final season of The Newlywed Game, it's the song Who Wrote the Book Called Life.

Availability: Extinct. Was seen on the final season of The Newlywed Game hosted by Paul Rodriguez (whenever GSN decides to re-air it).

Scare Factor: None.
