Background: The studio was formed in 1933 as Moscow Technical Films Factory to produce educational and documentary films. It was renamed several times - Mosnauchfim in 1945 and Centrnauchfilm in 1967. The studio created first Soviet widescreen and stereophonic films and was a research facility for many cinematic technologies. Since 2003, it is known as under the name of the Centre of National Film (CNF).


1st Logo

Nickname: "The Star-Torch Man"

Logo: There is a sculpture of a torch-holding man standing on a pedestal under a blue sky background. The torch ends with a red star. Below is a name which originally reads:

МОСКОВСКАЯ
ордена красной звезды
К И Н О С Т У Д И Я
НАУЧНО-ПОПУЛЯРНЫХ
фильмов

The first word is stretched into an arc-shape. The name translates to "Moscow Red Star Order's Film Studio for Popular Scientific Films".

Variants: In later years, the name had no arc-shape and the man stood by a slight angle. The background also varies.

FX/SFX: Just the fading-in.

Music/Sounds
: The opening theme of the film.

Availability: Rare. Like next logos, this one can be found on the DVD/Blu-ray Disc collection of films released by the Centre of National Film.

Nickname: "The Star-Torch Man II"

Logo: We see a silhouette of a man, almost the same as before, holding the star-ended torch which sends out rays. Then the man figure lights on entirely. The name "МОСНАУЧФИЛЬМ" is seen below.

Variants: There was a B/W variant and also a smaller version which only covers 2/3 of the screen.

FX/SFX: The fading-in and rays moving around or none.

Music/Sounds
: Same as previous logo.

Availability: See the 1st logo.

Nickname: "The Star-Torch Man III"

Logo: It's a variant of the very first logo with gray background and the pedistal. The arc-shaped name "ЦЕНТРНАУЧФИЛЬМ" appears below. Only the B/W version is known.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds
: None.

Availability: Very rare, as it was used for three years. Retained on a couple of programs from that era.

4th Logo

Nickname: "The Three-Line Block"

Logo: The name is divided into three lines which are stacked on each other and taken into a bo, forming the logo:

This logo is moved into top left corner. To the right is placed the other logo for one of associated studios.

Variants: Like other minor studios from that era, the name is usually presented as plain text. Even the three-line stack is not a fixed variant. The box can be absent.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds
: The intro theme.

Availability: Uncommon. Appeared exclusively in upper left corner with associated studio's logo to the right. Saved on educational and documentary films which occasionally air on TV and retained on the DVD release.

6th Logo

Logo: On the black background, we see some confetti flying. Then, the stylized man drawing. Then the background behind the man appears. The confetti slowly ends flying, forming words: "ЦНФ" in shape-styled font. Then, one line comes to "Ф" letter, making it look like the radar. The full name appears and some confetti lines are landing and swimming in the sea (on the BG behind the man). Then the boat is appearing with animated smoke. The logo disappears.

Trivia:This logo is based on Complex Presentiment: Half-Figure in a Yellow Shirt from 1928-1932 by Kazimir Severinovich Malevich, whose another painting,Painterly Realism of a Peasant Woman in Two Dimensions, was used for Krasny Kvadrat's logo.

Variant: A still variant exist.

FX/SFX: Mix of computer animation, CGI and cel animation (for the smoke).

Music/Sounds: Winding sound, followed by the rising-up note chime. Then, the winding sound continues until the end, with the boat sound in the background, when the smoke appearing from the boat.

Availability: Uncommon. The known movie to have this logo is Star Dogs (Белка и Стрелка: звёздные собаки).
