Background: Celebrity Home Entertainment was founded in the mid '80s by Noel Bloom to distribute obscure films from around the world, like virtual tours, documentaries, and wildlife videos. They also distributed some B-grade action films and soft-core adult titles. Perhaps the most famous division of this company was its Just for Kids line, which distributed children's TV shows and English-dubbed anime. Although Celebrity Home Entertainment went bankrupt in 1991, their Just for Kids line spun off into a seperate distribution company and remained active until 1995.

(1985-1991)

Celebrity Home Entertainment

Nickname: “Neon Sign”

Logo: On what appears to be a black-blue gradient background, a pink light writes in the word “Celebrity”, in a cursive font similar to the font used in “Playaround” in the Playaround Video logo and “Let’s All” in the 1985 “Let’s All Be There” ID for NBC, and “Home Entertainment”, in a much cheaper white font, fades in below.

Variants:
  • There is a still version of this logo.
  • Some tapes have a poorly aligned background, so a black vertical bar on the right side appears.
FX/SFX: The writing in of “Celebrity”.

Cheesy Factor: The writing in is very cheesy.

Music/Sounds: None for the still logo, but a bouncy and catchy synthesizer jingle can be heard on the animated logos.

Availability: Hard to find. Check eBay or an old mom-and-pop video store.

Scare Factor: Low to medium; the dark nature of the logo (and the cursive font for “Celebrity”) might give someone nightmares, but the synth tune is very fun to hear for those who love it.
