Background: CBS Films (formerly known as "CBS Television Film Sales" and later known as "CBS Enterprises, Inc." starting in January 1968) was the production and distribution arm of the CBS Television Network for off-network programs produced and/or owned by the network from 1952 to 1968. It was renamed as "CBS Enterprises, Inc." in January 1968. Due to the FCC's Financial Interest and Syndication Rules (also known as the Fin-Syn Rules), the company was spun off in 1971 and was renamed as "Viacom Enterprises". Currently, all of the CBS Films library is copyrighted to CBS Television Studios, with distribution handled by CBS Television Distribution (the fin-syn rules were later repealed and CBS started a new distribution unit).

Note: Not to be confused with the "current" CBS Films, the film production unit of ViacomCBS through the CBS Entertainment Group.
