Background: Bell Dramatic Serial Company (known as Bell-Phillip Television Productions, Inc. on The Bold and the Beautiful) was originally formed in 1973 by the late William J. Bell and his wife Lee Phillip Bell to produce The Young and the Restless, the soap opera they created. Since 1987, the company has also produced The Bold and the Beautiful, a spinoff of The Young and the Restless created by the Bells.
1st Logo
(1973-)
Logo: On the closing credits of Y&R, we see the text:
A COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION (COLUMBIA TRISTAR TELEVISION OR SONY PICTURES TELEVISION) PRESENTATION in association with BELL DRAMATIC SERIAL COMPANY and CORDAY PRODUCTIONS, INC Copyright © (year) by CPT HOLDINGS, INC. All Rights Reserved
FX/SFX: None, it's a superimposed logo.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of The Young and the Restless. We also hear an announcer saying, "Join us again for The Young and the Restless."
Availability: Currently seen on The Young and the Restless on SoapNet and CBS.com in the United States, and Global in Canada. This was also seen on CBS airings until September 20, 1999, when CBS began using generic split-screen credits on its daytime programming.
Scare Factor: None to minimal, depending on what logo follows the credits.
2nd Logo
(1987-)
Nickname: "Bell-Phillip"
Logo: On the closing credits of The Bold and the Beautiful, we see the text:
BELL-PHILLIP
TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS, INC.
in its 1987-2004 The Bold and the Beautiful font.
FX/SFX: None, it's a superimposed logo, except for the Bell-Phillip logo with copyright going to the CBS Television City mentioning then going back to the Bell-Phillip logo without copyright.
Variants: The first variant of the end credits (1987-1992) had the credits on a black background. Starting in 1992, different backdrops (of at least one setting from the particular episode featuring the credits) would be used for the end credits.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of The Bold and the Beautiful. We sometimes also hear an announcer's closing annoucements, such as "Join us again for The Bold and the Beautiful." From 1999-2002 on CBS, the logo used the music from logo 4 since CBS began using generic split-screen credits on daytime programming on September 20, 1999.
Availability: Seen on international airings of The Bold and the Beautiful, and on episodes posted at CBS.com. This was also seen on CBS airings until 2002, when CBS began using logo #4.
Scare Factor: None to medium, depending on the music and background used, especially the tail end of the theme song combined with the logo on the black background used from 1987 to 1992, which is sure to create a scary combination!
3rd Logo
(2002-2003)
Nickname: "Bell"
Logo: On a dark gray background with a teal "X", we see the name "BELL" in the same font like the first logo in white and next to it has "DRAMATIC SERIAL COMPANY" stacked. We later see a shining wipe effect.
FX/SFX: The shining wipe effect.
Music/Sounds: A three-note lighthouse bell, with some ocean sounds.
Availability: Extinct. It appeared only on The Young and the Restless, but it may appear on a December rerun during Soap Classics.
Scare Factor: None to low, some might be caught off-guard by the lighthouse bells.
4th Logo
(2002-)
Nickname: "The Lighthouse Bell"
Logo: On a CGI dark cloudy sky background with clouds moving, we see a beam of light, revealing the word "BELL" in a similar font (The Bold and the Beautiful font) to Logos 2 and 3. Under it is:
- BELL DRAMATIC SERIAL COMPANY (used on The Young and the Restless airings in all countries since 2003)
- BELL-PHILLIP TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS INC. (used on The Bold and the Beautiful airings in the USA since 2002)
FX/SFX: The animation in this logo.
Music/Sounds: On The Young and the Restless, the same music used in logo #3 is heard. On The Bold and the Beautiful, it's the show's theme, but very brief (since CBS uses generic split-screen credits) and higher pitched.
Availability: Current on both soaps listed above.
Scare Factor: None to low, some might be caught off-guard by the light-house bells on Y&R or the brief version of the B&B theme.
