Associated Film Distributors

Logo descritions by Codyfinke2

Background: Associated Film Distributors was an American movie division of ITC Film Distributors.

(1978-1982)

Nickname
: "The AFD"

Associated Film Distribution
Logo: On a black background, we see two rays of orange light etch itself into an abstract bubble letter AFD. Before the F is finished etching, the light zooms back into a solid line AFD. The logo flashes gold and turns golden metallic. A light blue ray of light places itself under the AFD, and the light zooms back to a solid blue, "Associated Film Distibution". Each letter sparkles and the whole logo shines afterwards.

SFX: The computer-generated animation, possibly Scanimate.

Cheesy Factor:
The computer graphics are cheap, and the logo design is ugly.

Music: A twangy six note synth going lower, and then progressively higher each time, then a droning synth that turns into some
weird alien like warbling. Sometimes, it is silent, or the beginning of a movie's theme.

Availability:
Extremely Rare. Appeared on the original releases of The Jazz Singer (1980 version), Can't Stop the Music (1980) and The Muppet Movie (1979). New prints of these films have had other logos plastered over this logo in recent years (the EMI-produced films now have StudioCanal's current logo at the start of the former two films and The Muppet Movie now has the Jim Henson Pictures logo at the beginning of the latter). Was on original VHS/Beta/laserdisc prints of all three films.

Scare Factor: Depending on the logo variant:
  • Medium to High; the god-awful synthesizer music, and the black background causes lots of scares.
  • Low to Medium for the silent and movie theme music variants.
