1st Logo
(Dates Unknown, possibly early to mid '80s)
Academy Home Entertainment

Logo: On a sunset background (with stars shooting outward, for some strange reason) with two searchlights (like the KingWorld logo), we zoom out on a Roman-like structure. A flash of light brings forth the ACADEMY HOME ENTERTAINMENT text, carved in stone, set upon the structure, which now has spotlights moving around on it. Then ACADEMY HOME ENTERTAINMENT, with a "shadow" effect, zooms out, and we are left with a white print logo on a blue background, with the roof of the structure missing.

FX: Everything. Good animation, but the building looks like a model.

Music/Sounds: A majestic fanfare.

Availability: Rare, seen on B movies from the late 80s.

Scare Factor: None

2nd Logo
(Mid-to-late 1980s through 1996)
Academy EntertainmentAcademy EntertainmentAcademy
Logo: On a dark blue space background, we see a bright burst of light. Then the Academy star logo zooms in, rotating in 3D as it does so. When it reaches the centre of the screen, a flash appears behind it. The text ACADEMY ENTERTAINMENT (with a line between the words) flips in from the bottom. Then the words "shine" and a sparkle appears on the "Y" in ACADEMY. Then we fade out.

Variants :
  • On some tapes, a semi-still logo was used. The "star" faded in onto a blue gradient background, shined, and then ACADEMY ENTERTAINMENT faded in.
  • On the ending of Academy tapes, the ACADEMY ENTERTAINMENT text "flipped" in, and a copyright date (in Roman numerals) faded below.

FX: Pretty good animationanimation. for the 80s. The "flashes" look fake, but this is a top notch logo for the time.

Music/Sounds: 2 chords when the star rotates in, another one when the star flashes and ACADEMY flips in, 3 more chords, and then a glittery sound when the words shine. For the ending logo, the tail end of this music played. For the still logo, no music was heard.

Availability: Seen on very cheesy horror movies throughout the 80s, like Match Girl, movies, and other films like Boris and Natasha: The Movie.Movie, Last Man Standing (AKA: Circle Man), and Match Girl.

Scare Factor: Medium.
