Background: Also known as ABC Film Syndication, Inc., this was the production/distribution arm of the ABC Television Network for ABC off-network programs from 1957 to 1973, being spun-off and reincorporated after as Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. because it was against the FCC regulations for a television network to distribute its programs under its own name. Nowdays, the ABC Films library is handed mainly by CBS Corporation, thru CBS Television Distribution and Republic Entertainment, Inc. The company never used anything until 1959.
1st Logo
(1959-1973)
Logo: Originally in 1957, ABC Films didn't use a logo or an in-screen text, but on 26 Men they used athis disclaimerinfo on the bottom of the end credits:
THIS IS BEEN AN ABC FILM PRESENTATION
But until 1959 on such shows like Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond, they used a custom text:
A-------------------------------
JOSEPH M. SCHENCK-------------------------------
ENTERPRISES-------------------------------
-------------------------------ABC-------FILMS
-------------------------------PRESENTATION
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: Just the end title theme from any show.
Availability: Seen on Let's Make A Deal (1971-1973) when reran on GSN, as well on public domain video releases of One Step Beyond.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo
(1963-1966)
Logo: The standard ABC circle logo (with the letters in lowercase inside a circle, no doubt) and another circle with the word "Films" in the similar logo type font, layered horizontally between a wavy design around both circles.
FX/SFX: TBA.
Music/Sounds: Possibly none.
Availability: Extinct; these were intact when Central Park Media released The 8th Man on VHS in 1991, but it's hard to find now.
Scare Factor: Possibly none.
3rd Logo
(1966-1973)
Logo: On a blue background, the words "Distributed by" in a brush font is drawn on the screen. The words "ABC FILMS" in a news style font fade into view. Finally, the standard ABC circle logo appears to the left of the "ABC FILMS" at the end.
Variant: There was another version without the words "Distributed by" above.
FX/SFX: The drawn text; the fading company name.
Music/Sounds: A xylophone/string composition with a string stinger at the end.
Availability: Extinct, appearing originally on most ABC network programs that were in syndication at the time. Not even Let's Make a Deal (1971-1973 syndicated version) had this logo in their credit scroll. It was seen at the end of some TV movies from the era, as well on older prints of cartoon shows of the era, such as King Kong, The Smokey Bear Show, Hot Wheels, and the Harveytoon and Beany & Cecil video collections, among others. Don't expect this logo to turn up on any DVDs.
Scare Factor: Low to medium; the theme may cause some scares.
