Background: This television division was formed in 1992 by 20th Century Fox and Fox Television Stations, divisions of News Corporation. 20th Television also produces their own programs and distributes them across the nation.
(1992- )
Nicknames: "CGI Searchlights", "Tower of Tepidity", "Zooming Tower"
Logo: We see a close-up of the familiar Fox structure, but now it's in CGI and reads "20th TELEVISION", with a line below that (that would normally be reserved for "FOX") replaced by a simple golden square. The logo zooms out to the familiar Fox logo distance. In the logo's early years, the zoom-out appeared to be slower.
Variants:
An opening variant exists; the logo is the same, only the zoom-out is very slow and choppy, and also it's silent and bylineless.
On local reruns of South Park and TBS's split-screen credits of Yes, Dear, the logo appears as usual without animation during the TBS "(SERIES NAME HERE) Starts Right Now!" bumper, even with vanity cards.
In 2008, the 20th TV logo was given a more "enhanced" look and the effects more realistic, just like its network television counterpart.
A black-and-white variant of the 2008 logo was spotted on the film It Happens Every Spring on TCM.
On Adult Swim's print of the King of the Hill episode "Hank's Unmentional Problem", it has the 1995 jingle, but after it ends, the searchlights still scroll before cuting to black.
Byline: "A NEWS CORPORATION COMPANY" began fading in below the logo in 1994.
FX/SFX: The logo zooming out. However, on local reruns of South Park and TBS's reruns of Yes, Dear with split-screen credits, there is no animation at all.
Music/Sounds:
1992-1995: The remastered 1988 jingle.
1995-2008: A re-arranged and re-recorded variant of the 1988 jingle by Bruce Broughton.
1997-2008: A re-arranged and a re-recorded warp speed variant of the 1961 jingle.
2008-: The current jingle that is edited from 1997 recording of the studio fanfare, with 0:07-0:09 of the fanfare leading into 0:12 of the fanfare.
January 2009-: The short version of the 20th Century Fox fanfare. It sounds like an extended version of the 1995 fanfare. Seen on King of the Hill on Adult Swim.
Music/Sound Variants:
In some cases, it uses only the closing theme of the show, or it's silent.
There was a low tone of the remastered 1988 theme from 1992-1995 on reruns of Dynasty.
Same as before, on co-produced Steven Bochco shows, it used the ending part of the SBP logo theme.
Sometimes, it uses the Fox Television Studios theme. Because some Fox Television Studios shows like The Hughleys, have this logo plaster it with it's original music left intact.
On Hallmark Channel's print of the M*A*S*H episode "Love Story" and on BET's print of the In Living Color episode "Anton the Recruiter", the short 1965 20th Century Fox Television theme is heard.
On Family Feud, the 1995 theme is edited a bit, with the second half only.
In exceptional cases, a soundbite of the show is used.
Availability: Plastered onto most every show Fox distributes, even classic shows. It even shows up on DVDs of Fox shows (such as The Simpsons). Also, the opening variant is very rare, being seen only on the movie An Unmarried Woman. The enhanced variant can be seen on current episodes of The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet, Family Feud, and Christina's Court, as well as King of the Hill reruns on Adult Swim.
Scare Factor: Depending on the logo variant:
1992-1995: None.
1995-2008: Low.
1997-2008: Low to medium.
2008-: None.
2009-: Minimal to low, will suprise you the first time you see it.
Low for the opening variant.
None with the closing theme, depending on the theme.
